Hello, i'm trying to recover data from my iphone backups without having to restore. I would like to get my pictures/videos back to my hard drive.

i found an application called "iphone backup Extractor" i was able to extract the files, but the files somehow don't open. has anyone gotten to extract their files and able to view them successfully? thanks

Which files? This is like saying "I copied all the files off a computer but I can't open them."

Each iOS application has it's own files, and there are apps, prefs, etc etc. Much of the info in iOS is also kept in database files, so you'd need to run something that could read sqlite dbs.

You need to figure out WHERE those pictures and videos were on your iPhone. If they were stored in Apple's apps, then probably they're in "iOS Files" in the Extractor, and then in /iOS Files/Media/DCIM. If they were in another app, you'd have to look there. If you open in a Finder window and then search on the appropriate file suffix, say .mov or jpg, you might find them.
