My gmail just got account hacked to send out spam to my contacts. My password is not something that I think could be sequentially cracked. It and its variants come out as "strong" on sites that show password strength as one registers.

On a lark I searched for my password in gmail. Up popped a plethora of emails sent out every few days containing a copy of the info I have kept on "Notes," on my iPhone, where I'm ashamed to say, I kept usernames and passwords of my too-many accounts at work, etc.

The recurrent email info for these is:
from: Me myaccount@gmail.com
to: undisclosed recipients
date: Day, Date at Time
subject: "Title of Notes Page in Question"
mailed-by: gmail.com

In fact, after doing some other keyword searches, it turns out that it sends out a copy of each Notes page to Me and to these undisclosed recipients every time I make a change to a Notes page.

This seems to be pretty sophisticated malware on an iPhone of all things. Any other reports of such badness out there? For starters I guess I delete Notes, but could this malware be elsewhere? And how would I go about scanning for it and quarantining or deleting it?

Is there and app for that?

Thanks

Are you jail broken?

If something is on a device it does not need a password to send anything as generally your email send passwords would be stored!!

Not Jail Broken

Some program is copying the contents of Notes and emailing out of my iPhone to "undisclosed recipients." This several steps and between programs.

I have just noticed this behaviour as well. iPad 3, not jailbroken either. Found this started as early as May. Is this normal? I have since disconnected "Notes" from "Gmail" in the mail settings area, wondering if that's what it was. Nervous at the thought of being something malicious?

I just noticed the same thing, on a un-jailbroken iPad 2. Notes written on my iPad had been sent via gmail to "undisclosed recipients." Very scary as I had some very sensitive information on there.
I had gotten the iPad used but I made sure to erase all content and settings before I started using it myself.
Would really like a confirmation on whether or not I had been hacked or if this is some new Apple/Gmail sync thing.

I found this:

Apparently this was indeed a setting allowing you to view Notes written on your Ipad/iPhone in Gmail.

A link from the above discussion, from an unofficial blog about this:

I made a google groups thing and am awaiting a confirmation through there

Personally, I think if we use Gmail through our iOS devices, there should be something, like a special self-generated label in Gmail for notes from the Notes app, rather than this which, to be honest, looks very shady.
