I have recently noticed a problem with my calender on my built-in calendar app on my iPhone 5c running iOS 8.

When I am at the screen with all of the months and dates, when I click a date, it goes straight to the screen showing all of my different events on different dates. Similarly, if I click on a date in a text message, it goes to this events view also.

I cant click on a date and have it go to where I can add stuff to that date, it just always goes to that event view.

Hopefully you guys can help me out.

Thanks.

This is expected behavior. To add an event, tap the "+" in the top right corner. There you can add the event, the day, time and any other info including sending an invite. I was used to selecting the day, adding the event and having the date be the day I tapped on. It took some time to get used to. Hope this helps! :)

But it wasn't always like this. My friend's phone still behaves this way: click a date and it sends you to the times of that day to add things.

I saw the add feature, and I had to scroll through 6 months to add an event!

So this was a change? No way to go back?

Because when someone sends me a text and it underlines the date, it doesn't even go to the date, it sends me to that screen. So instead of just being able to add it right there on the spot, I have to remember the date and time and manually add it? What a pain.

You are correct that tapping on a date in a message or an email should allow you to add the event without manually entering the date. I just tested this on 3 separate email accounts and 2 text messages. If you tap on the event information (ie: Dinner September 26 at 7:30pm) it will bring up a menu with options "create event" "show in calendar" or "copy" on my iPad and IPhone 5s both with iOS 8. If you create the event, it opens the "add event window" without opening the calendar and the date and time are what was there. If you tap "show in calendar" it only show the date so you can see if you are free. Then you can go back to the message, tap, and create the event.

I did some tests. To add an event to a specific day on your iphone, rotate the calendar to landscape view. There you can tap and hold on a day, the new event screen comes up with the date already populated.
