I've just bought myself an iphone after switching from vodafone to O2, and in general i'm really happy with it, but......I don't know if it's the O2 network or the iphone itself, but the first thing I noticed is that the call quality was pretty poor. Not so much the loudness, it just sounds like the caller has an echo/talking through a rolled up tube. I can make out what they are saying, but it is definitley not crystal like almost every phone I've had previously. I was just wondering whether it's the O2 network, the iphone in general, or my individual iphone itself??.

Could anyone help out with their experiences of their own call quality on the iphone??

    Thanks.

I feel the same. Very disappointed with the sound being low and the call quality being bellow what I'm used to. I feel it is the iPhone, which other wise i love, rather than anything else.

No issues with call quality here. More than loud enough at 75% volume and natural sounding too.

If it is any consolation, I have the same thing happening with my LG every once in awhile. I don't own an Iphone yet (in march) so I can't say anything on the iphone, but i can't wait to see if I have the same problem. :p;):D

    call quality

    Thanks for the replies,

I bought mine from carphone warehouse, and i've got a sneaking suspicion it might have been a returned iphone, as the box was not shrink wrapped, and didnt contain a cleaning cloth. Should it have?

    Yes on both counts.

I'd take it back and request a unopened handset.

It should be shrink wrapped as shown and the phone also has two soft plastic covers on it, one with a tab on the right shown in the second photo.

Picked up mine yesterday and the call quality is like a land line call. I didn't notice a cleaning rag; but the shrink wrap was so tight I had a hard time removing it.:D

The cleaning cloth should be in the pack with the Apple stickers and Finger Tips.

I am constantly impressed with my iPhone's call quality. It is far better than any other phone I have owned in the past 8 years or so.

    It gets worse.....

Thanks again for all the replies.

    A quick update,

I went back to the carphone warehouse and managed to get a replacement
quite easily, except.....when I got it home, apart from the call quality sounding better, I now have an iphone that has the negative black problems on the screen!. I can't believe this. I dont know whether to get ANOTHER one hoping both issues will be fixed, or just take my old one back and accept the low call quality; at least the screen looked great on that one. Otherwise, at this rate, I'll go through the stores whole inventory!

PS. While I was in there, the sales guy thought I wanted to cancel my contract and get my money back. He then showed me an email that had been sent to all carphone warehouse stores that morning, instructing them not to give any refunds or cancel contracts if the phone has been activated!.
Not related to my post I know, but thought it worth telling people.
    :(

Sorry to hear about your troubles. But what's a negative black screen problem?

The negative blacks problem, is where when you view the screen face on, the black areas of the image on the screen appear lighter than black,i.e. like a negative. It kills any detail in the blacks and means you have to tilt the screen to see the image/video in it's intended state, which for some people might be a problem, but let me assure you, that once you have seen it, it irritates the hell out of you.

Here is a link to an ongoing thread explaining things a bit better than me.

Here is a test for your own iphone

    Thanks.

Wow... I would not like this. Will they exchange it for you?

just my two pence, but i'd try to get a working model. don't accept your old one back. i'm in the states, but the call quality is great. a lot better than my old phone and i thought it had good quality. you won't be disappointed if you get one that works the way it should. sorry to hear about your problems, tho.

    Finally!

Went back to the carphone warehouse again, and spoke to one of the salesmen who was next to hopeless. Asked for the manager and explained the previous problems to him. I showed him the test pages on appleservedup.com on a handset in store which was fine, compared to mine. He refused to admit there was a difference, which there blatantly was, but begrudgingly agreed to another replacement, as they had already sent my first phone back to apple. He trotted out the expected line that carphone warehouse had had no reports of any screen problems whatsoever, and generally implied I was being fussy. I told him to expect to see me back this afternoon if this handset was dodgy as well.(not sure that made his day though).

Thankfully, after going home and activating my third iphone, the screen looks great, and the call quality is better than my first one(albeit not as good as my k750i. But more than bearable though).

All in all, a bit worrying that it took three phones until I got a decent one, but hopefully it's just a bit of bad luck on my side!

Anyway, thanks again to all who replied with advice.

    Cheers.:D
