Same difference. Sure, she wants to practice fair use, but the act of defeating the DVD's security to make that copy is against the law. As a law enforcer, you'd just think she would have more common sense about saying such things to the public.

It isn't always as black and white as that. My father has been a sherriff for many years, but would support fair use.

Just because it is a law doesn't make it right. Stuff like that does nothing to stop the pirates and everything to piss off us paying customers.

So a police detective is asking you how to break a DVD's copy protection in order to make copies of a copyrighted movie. Wonderful!

I'm sure charges would never stick if something like this ever went to court. This is the equivelent or ripping music to your ipod. Just because something is DRMed doesn't make breaking it illegal.
