Anyone else disappointed in Camera performance this year? My 14 PM has terrible autofocusing, the 3x camera is very staticky, and the ultra wide camera has a very noticeable vignette.

Not isolated to my phone either, same on all the 14 PM I have tried.

I really want a 10x lens at minimum. The 14 camera is pretty similar to the 13pm with the added benefit of 48mp. If you aren't shooting at 48mp and then converting them with a short cut you aren't getting any benefit from the new camera imo. Regardless its pretty marginal.

I think 4k 60 is slightly better than the 13pm but I still shoot at 1080 60 because I can still see a touch of jitter when panning at 4k 60. Its better but not where it should be.

I took these photos yesterday, the camera certainly doesn't suck but its not as good as it should be imo. Still, it is in the top 3 for sure on smart phones jockeying for position depending on what you are shooting.

Not just you. The autofocus is pretty bad. In everyday situations I have significantly more blurry photos and find myself retaking them. I’m very disappointed coming from an iPhone 12 Pro. Now the 48mp raw photos I’ve taken do look splendid but…that’s not for everyday use.

Coming from an XR, I am enjoying the added flexibility of the camera island and the improved night mode.

Only area it sucks is HDR and shadow detail. The rest it's very good overall. Skin tones generally though aren't as good as pixel.

amazing photo! Where was that taken?

The camera's are amazing this year, especially the 48MP main camera.
Except for some of us are definitely seeing autofocus issues. I agree with you that the 48mp is nice;I’m getting great photos there. If I take my phone out and take a photo of my dog randomly on 12mp it’s commonly blurry. These cameras are 2x the size of my iPhone 12 Pro and the photos for everyday usage are noticeably worse or I’m finding myself retaking them. I would not say “they suck”, but something is off here. Maybe it’s hardware related because I don’t see how everyone isn’t seeing these issues. It’s very noticeable.

Honestly, as a photographer myself, I've been pretty pleased with the camera since the iPhone 12 Pro. I thought the 11 pro wasn't too bad. I use the iphone's camera for when I don't really have my professional camera with me, and I just edit the photos on lightroom for mobile. Plus, the next best camera that you have is in your pocket. Just remember, camera technology on smartphones are constantly advancing, and they have came a long way since the original iPhone where it only took 2 megapixels vs the 14 pro where it has 48 megapixels on the main camera. I know some photographers are also saying that one of these days, smartphone cameras will overtake the handheld cameras since they're getting better and better each year with advancing technology!

I think after using an IPhone for so long I am just unfazed by the pictures, but my gf is always astonished by the photos. But I still agree with you the "Photonic Engine" isn't as impressive as I thought it would be. It's the inhouse processing that kinda makes pictures look weird especially if you have ideal lighting. The videos that the IPhone can take are really impressive though. I will never not be blown away by it.

Coming from a Note 20, I will say that the pictures I have taken on my iPhone seem too warm for my tastes. And I compare them by looking at them on another device that is not either of the phones. I am not sure how I feel about that. Maybe warmer is more correct?

I do miss the 5x zoom of the Note. I used that a lot and the 3x max zoom on the iPhone is weak. People have asked me what I think about the camera on my Pro Max and my response is usually “eh, it’s ok, I guess”. I really like my new phone and am glad that I made the switch, but the camera is likely my least favorite part of it.

Select a different camera profile, cooler is an option...

I have to agree. I went from a 13 (non pro) to the 14 pro and I am pretty disappointed in the cameras. Maybe it's just me but from the photos I've taken they all seem to have some sort of graininess/blurriness to them. I find that nothing looks 100% in focus in any photos I take. I've tried shooting in RAW and while it helps some, it's not perfect.

I was very impressed with the photos my 13 took.

I was extremely upset that my new iPhone 14 Pro Max's camera
resulted in poorer photos than my old Sony a7 III camera. :(
(inexcusable... since the 14 Pro Max has a 48mp sensor...
double the 24mp sensor on my old a7 III) 🤬

next thread: "why was my new iPhone not giftwrapped and
delivered to me in person by Tim Cook" :(
