rogers rant

normally a service provider's job is to cater
to customers and the market requirements

so far the rogers issues mentioned are:

1. rogers logo on the iphone

what apple user would want that ugly
thing splattered on their iphone? not me ;)

2. no wi-fi on the iphone

is rogers management on crack? really

it's the 21st century and they want to
"control" data flow by killing wi-fi

3. the most expensive data rates in the world

did at&t go bankrupt by providing unlimited data? nope

makes one wonder if rogers actually bothers doing
any market research on their customer wishes or if they
spend all their time scheming ways to gouge canadians

bring on the unlocked phones to canada
until they get their act together.. if ever

rogers deserves to not have all of the potential
customers actually using their data services
simply for their lack of foresight and intelligence

personally, would gladly pay the same rates as
the u.s. to have unlimited data on my iphone :)

go apple.. glad to hear at least they are looking
at what the canadian market actually wants

end of rant ;)

I work for a 3rd party company selling Rogers services. I called Rogers to clarify the $7 "unlimited data" plan. I found out it's only for edge devices and it's quite useless considering Rogers is moving away from edge. I said that data plan is meaningless for the future. Especially if you guys want the iPhone to come. The rep told me Rogers is committed to finding a data plan that will benefit future iPhone users. This is where I started playing dumb. I told him there was no rush because of the at&t 2012 exclusive deal. He replied by saying it is illegal to withhold a product for more than 1.5 years after the release date OR after x number of units sold. And that the remainder of the agreement is just how long at&t is allowed to market and sell the phone. Then continued by saying Rogers is the first in line after the exclusive deal has expired. (Keeping in mind Apple says it's Rogers' fault). The rep further explained that this is legal because Rogers and other carriers can BUY phones from Apple but just can't sell them to the consumer and have to store them somewhere. So I asked the only questions that makes sense... "Are there any Rogers iPhones in storage somewhere waiting to be sold?" The rep responded with...

"I have not SEEN any Rogers iPhones and have not heard anything official. However I HAVE seen unbranded iPhones floating around. Ones that have neither the Rogers logo or Apple logo. Being as even the ones unlocked to be on the Rogers network have the Apple logo on the back, this indicates to me a testing period because those models could only have come from the manufacturer."

Now this was a Rogers employee service line I called. So this guy might have actually known something, or might have just wanted me off the phone with him. And this is the same dept. that said at xmas we wouldn't be carrying the iPhone in time for the holidays because it only had a half hour of talk time out of the battery.... so.... I tend NOT to trust them... but this guy seemed to know what he was talking about. So it would seem the only thing left would be the whole Comwave Inc. scam.... Has anyone seen those commercials??? Clearly just a money grab! They look like they only cost $50 to make!! hahaha

I dream of this damn phone coming to Canada but I quickly have my dream ruined when I think of overpriced they will make it. I hate all Canadian cell phoner carriers there is something wrong with all of them....

yeah.. even working for rogers i have to say they are pretty balls... i want telus to go gsm so we have some competition and at least get a little better pricing.. im not sure telus would win i the end. but rogers would have to lower rates to steal all the business which telus couldnt do cause they just spent a dump truck of cash converting. either way. we need this telus. bring on the gsm
