iphone cannot connect to appstore ??

is this a common issue with iPhone 3G?

it shows the page for let's say 90% but stops and iphone flips to " homepage" showing the all the icons

Via Safari it still doesn't connect.
Via the app icon it does.

so though it is strange that it doesn't seem to work both ways,
I am able to get freeware from appstore on my iPhone 3G
