ALL car adapters will not charge anymore because Apple does not support Firewire charging anymore. They will have to update to USB charging... as far as playing music, it works fine.

**If** the head unit uses a proprietary connection on their end of the iPod cable, it probably won't charge. But, many units today come with a USB connection instead, and there's every reason to expect that they will charge just fine.

Do you know why this is?

Apple's gotta draw the line someplace. It takes two sets of charging circuits (or one charge circuit, and one step-down circuit) to provide for both FireWire (12 volt) and USB (5 volt) charging. It's not necessarily about the money, but about the available space on the circuit board(s) inside the iPhone.

I'm confused by your pics. The last picture looks like a wire comes out from your cig lighter, to the middle. The other two look like the usb port is just in the middle of the dash. Did you cut that, and install that usb port there? Seems like it would have been cleaner to put a usb port somewhere else, maybe out of sight so you don't have a wire hanging out of your dash all the time.

Am I missing something?

The "wire" from the last picture is just a piece of plastic. It's a plug for a USB port that I cut from another USB cable and I didn't cut the end off of it yet. I did install the USB port myself. I wanted functionality. If I have it right there, I can mount my iPhone anywhere in that general area. I will most likely mount my phone in the cigarette lighter or air vent, so the wire would be hanging from there regardless of where I put the port. And if I want to swap it out with a USB flash drive, I can quickly do that. And if I want to hide it, I have that plastic plug to stick in it.

FH-P8000BT + iphone

Hello Guys,

Greetings from Mumbai, India.

I just installed my Pioneer FH-P8000BT. No issues pairing my iphone (not 3G) with the HU, and using the phone features. But when I connected my iphone USB cable with the USB port connected to the HU, the HU detects the iphone but doesnt charge, or even play the music of it :(

Can someone please tell me where im going wrong?

As a further update - I connected a USB pen drive (with a few mp3s) and it worked just fine. Also, im trying to connect my iphone using the white USB cable provided with the phone. I have not purchased a separate usb cable for the iphone as several of you folks.

Lastly, im running the oldest iphone firmware - 1.0.2. Never gotten around updating it.

Would really appreciate some help getting the iphone running.

Why in the heck would you be running 1.0.2???? You really need to update it. Some firmware updates made some accessories work with it.

What's wrong with updating from iTunes?

thats because its an unlocked phone.

also, i can confirm that our doubts are indeed true. i connected my friend's 1.1.x phone and not only was it charging but even playing music off it. i now really need a quick way to update to 1.1.x. I don't currently have either the installer or springboard installed on my phone.

can anyone offer any assistance?

Ahhh. Sorry about that. I didn't know you were going to mount it. Post some pics when you decide on a mount.

i have the Pioneer DEH-P6000UB and i hooked up my iPhone to it last night. It charged the phone and all the head unit features were working. The phone also seemed to have full access to all the other features.

I have to say - ditto for me on this. After doing some research, I bought the Pioneer DEH-P6000UB. The head unit works perfectly and it charges - you can either DJ from the head unit or give control to the iPhone. You'll get the pesky warning about turning on Airplane mode but you just cancel that - I have not experienced any interference whatsoever.

does this unit plug-in through the front or back?

it's all through the back. you just run the USB cable (comes with the unit) and another stereo cable (you need to buy this before install because it does not come w/ it and if you forget, you have to have it taken out) from the back of the unit to your glove box.

then, you use your iphone/ipod dock connector cable to plug into the usb - or you can use any other usb device - it's nice b/c you're not limited.

Anyone with any of these Pioneer models notice that the volume wheel's face scratches really easily? My fingernail brushed up against it one day and there's a nice line going across part of it now.

Also, has anyone had any trouble with the unit sometimes not pulling the correct ID3 tag information? I was playing some songs from my "Classics" playlist and an Eric Clapton song came on and it said it was Creedence Clearwater Revival. I changed the song and went back and then it correctly said Eric Clapton.

pioneer does not play music, iphone does...

hi guys (and sorry for hijacking your thread)
i just installed my deh-p700bt and i'm really happy with it, everything works as it should. except that when i connect my iphone (1st gen) there s no sound coming from my speakers, only from my iphone...
my iphone is correctly recognized, and i can control it from the unit, but no sound whatsoever.
i connected my old iphone nano and it worked perfectly.
can anyone tell me what the heck the problem could be?

thx in advance
cheers

...

uuuhmm.. never mind
i just tried it once again, and it just worked... no clue why it didn't the first few times...
so thx anyway ^^
(was probably your karma)

Alpine CDA-9856 with the Alpine "Full Speed" KCE-422i iPod cable.

I have an It's an older model (2006, I believe) and it has worked just fine with my iPod 4th gen for a couple of years.

Tried it with my iPhone 3G this morning, and other than the usual warnings about not charging, and not an "approved" accessory, it worked just fine. :) The Alpine controlled the selections just like on the iPod, I could use the search on the head and it went ot the playlist.:
:apple::apple:

My 3G iPhone worked originally when I first got it both playback control & charging. Since update 2.0.2 however, it will still play but charging has been disabled.

I have the Pioneer DEH-P4000UB and it works fine with the iphone 3G. Charges and everything. I control all functions through the iphone. This is one of the nice features I like, you can select how you want to control the iphone, either from the head unit or the iphone itself.

hi guys,

just finished reading all your comments about this issue. Can people clarify a few things for me. As i am about to purchase a new HU. Right now i am going to use it for my 5th Gen 30gb iPod... but in 6mnths i am getting an iPhone 3G so i dont want to spend lots of money and then the iPhone doesnt charge.

Can someone confirm which models of Pioneer or Alpine play and charge the iPhone 3G with the latest firmware.
Someone posted a link for a good review i looked for that model in the UK but couldnt find it, so can you let me know where you are from also because not all models are always same as USA.

Many thanks.
Snoop:)

Just noticed something about your comment and photo. You say the P6000UB charges but the image shown is of the P600UB which i could only find in the USA, where as the P6000UB has a different display is available in the UK.

So which model do you have that charges and plays the iPhone :) - the UK P6000UB or USA P600UB,

Thanks
Snoop
