Hey guys, I've recently come across an annoying issue with my iphone (3g) with regards to connecting to the internet when not on a wifi connection. I recently returned (to Hong Kong) from a trip to Nepal on which i brought my iphone. My phone several times connected to the local Nepal carriers, but I didnt make any calls, receive/send any mail or texts or attempt to access the internet. When I returned to HK however, I noticed at the airport when I once again connected to my own carrier, I received the following message whenever I try to access the internet (even through maps) "Cannot Open Page" -Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet- . The odd thing is, my phone calls and sms's still work, so my carrier is still connecting, but there is absolutely no data being transferred over the network!! The problem has persisted for nigh on 2 weeks now, and I have tried several reboots of the iphone, to no avail, as well as removing my sim card and re-entering. Any ideas? Was it connecting to the carrier in Nepal? Or is that likely unrelated?

I would call your carrier and see if data was disabled on your phone for some reason. I'm in the US, and this can happen here, maybe it is the same in HK.

Also, when in doubt (provided your phone is not jailbroken or unlocked) restore! :)

Same problem here with Vodafone Italy!

I've been connected with France carriers for about 10 hours without making any call, sms, or data traffic and since that day i got the same connection problem.

I don't know how to fix it because Vodafone says that the problem is not connected to their network system and they can only reset my sim to try to fix it (but for sure is an useless operation).

...and both carriers Tim and Vodafone got this problem.

So i thought it was a Firmware problem beacuse Safari loads RSS pages without any problem even with the "Cannot Open Page" message displayed (i've resetted Safari's cache too before this operation).

Any suggestion or similar experiences?

Thank You! :D

iphone data connection problems - Hong Kong/China

Same issue as above. I have a legally unlocked phone purchased out of Hong Kong. 3g had this issue as does my 3gs using a China mobile card. Is it my China mobile card or the phone? Help.

This problem is often caused by the Cellular Data log-in being set incorrectly.

Take a look at Settings-General-Network-Cellular Data, and check the information given for the APN and the sign-on. If it's wrong or blank, you should be able to re-enter the correct info.

Your carrier's Customer Services should also be able to send the settings to the phone, or you can often do it from their support website. Look up mobile internet settings on the site
