iPhone charger port burnt out

So a week ago from this past Tuesday my charger port burnt out and I had to get it replaced.has this ever happened to anyone and is this very random like 1 in 100.Or it's popular?

30 pin or lightning? And do you normally charge via USB, included Apple charger or 3rd party charger?
