Interesting how aapl gets some of the big things very right and some of the smaller things very wrong. Just saying.

ahh...this thread is becoming painful! lol

Lesse, we have a post equating automobile airbags with...an alarm clock. On a mobile phone.

Ohhh....kayyyy.

We have people waving pitchforks and torches muttering darkly about lawsuits.

Fine.

Every third post is about someone missing their flight/exam/wedding due to this problem. And then earnestly talking about how Apple isn't good for "mission-critical" applications.

NO **** SHERLOCK! It's a consumer device! lol Not the launch control for a NASA shuttle mission!

What else.

Ah yes. Comments how this proves the superiority of Android. *sigh* No, I don't suppose the massive growth of market share for Android could be because...they give away their phones two for one, in desperation? Even though the Marketplace is a mess of garbage apps?

Personally, I think it's mind-boggling that this is the world we live in, that people have the sheer TIME to devote to...let's see...a programming bug, in a clock application, on a mobile phone! LOL Makes that whole Gaza strip thing and world hunger seem a bit of a joke!

But please, keep this thread going...it makes for good entertainment!

This is a tech soap opera web site and there's nothing wrong with that. Almost everyone's mental health is improved by a bit of downtime. Some people like sex, drugs and/or rock and/or roll; for everyone else there's The Bald and The Breastless.

I just think they could have at least warned users in a more direct way. Heck, they can spam us to buy every Apple product imaginable, but they can't text us about an alarm issue and to use recurring?

lol :D

not trying to piss anyone off as I know this bug is quite a big problem for many, just a lighthearted joke :p.

If Apple include an Alarm clock functionality then you'd expect it to work, wouldn't you?

If you need to get up in the morning for a flight or something equally or more important, wouldn't it be sensible to have another alarm clock?

Judging by these posts, I would have to say  is overused to the extreme. I must campaign against it!!!

Of course, you assume the bug is in the alarm clock code. Since there is complex interaction going on in an OS that has many processes 'always on' (phone, message, mail, push etc - yeah not a BIG deal, but you get the idea),
its not hard to imagine that it could be a bug in some other process that INTERFERES with the alarm process.

Not saying it is, but just pointing out that the reason may not be what you think.

And I understand that it could be a simple mistake, but I don't see why that necessarily means something catastrophic. On that basis, humans should never do anything important or significant. Chronic simple mistakes, maybe.

does not change the fact that it something fairly simple screw up.
Add in the fact apple knew about this bug before hand and did nothing to fix it nor did they announce it speaks volumes.
Add in the fact this is the 2nd alarm bug in short time span that they refused to fix also says a lot.

Like I said in another post this is an example why IT deparments do not want to trust apple with anything mission critical because Apple refuses to fix bugs like this and will say nothing if they found out about them so IT departments could get work arounds in place for the short term.

They will sight this as yet another example of that fact and why I apple is not trusted in the enterprise world and why the want to keep Apple out.

Seriously? This is almost inexcusable. Sure it's a minor but but how could this not have been tested?!?!

Between this and the fact that they had the wrong antenna single formula (for 2 years!) you really have to wonder what other things are messed up.

It may be small but really when you pay for high end stuff this stuff shouldn't happen.

I'm going to wager that the devs in Apple are afraid to speak up about issues for fear of angering Steve Jobs.

I found this hilarious. My boyfriend works at an Apple store and had to be there at 9am New Year's Day, and said that literally half the staff were way late and they just started calling them in advance of their shifts, since so many of them used their phones as their alarms.

I know a lot of you have got your knickers in a twist and have seen it as the end of the world. Fair enough, but this bug has affected a lot of people and everyone is right here.

You wouldn't buy an alarm clock and then for it to forget to go off. You'd take it back, get a refund and buy another clock from another make. That's a loss to the company and if it's a major defeat (software or hardware), it's a major loss.

Now; when you're on top of the manufacturing stakes, there's that big light shining on Apple with their award winning iPhone. Sorry Apple. If you're going to spend billions testing it, get your basics right.

If they knew about this ahead of time, I wonder why they didn't do some kind of emergency last minute patch to save their asses.

Ahh yes. Good ole' Apple.

Do your research. Its the second time this has happened. The DST issue was almost identical. If you are here to tell people they are stupid for complaining when their $900 phone has a huge flaw with what should be the most basic application, you're the one who needs to get a life.
The guy who paid $900 for an iPhone is telling people to get a life? :O

I'm slightly concerned about someone trusting the life of their child to a single piece of consumer electronics.

I also can't help think that everyone who's commented on this story with either point of view is a little weird.

It's right to expect an alarm clock to work, and it's also right to allow A LOT of time for catching flights.
