When I place two of my own iPhones next to each other it plays the new AirDrop/NameDrop stretch animation and a banner comes up saying they are connected. When I swipe the banners away, it immediately happens again.

I'm not on a photo or anything AirDrop-able. What does this accomplish? How are they connected? It's very annoying.

Edit: I'm aware this is a new iOS 17 feature 😅 I'm asking what it's doing when it's "connecting" two of my own devices when no shareable media is open.

I do want to use those features with other people. I just don't understand what it's doing when it's two of my own devices 😆

With so many ignored emails and ignored texts you probably have better things to worry about. It is not like it is taking up much screen space and I would bet that if you pick one up to read those texts the message goes away.
Dude what 🤣
1) the notification doesn't go away, it's persistent at the top of the screen and blocks content.
2) the old phone is connected to an abandoned email address that isn't on the new phone (it's entirely marketing spam). the texts have been read on the new phone, but for whatever reason they don't always get marked read across all devices

But anyway I don't owe an explanation for how I use my devices, I just want to know what it's connecting for.

I am curious how close the phones need to be to for that popup to occur. And you are saying it never goes away even if you separate the phones? It would be pretty bad if that popup stays up constantly if your partner is in the same house.

It is totally possible that somone may not be using iCloud and want to share a document between their own phones. They really cannot tell whether you are using both phones or if one is for your kid or partner. Like the guy said earlier, just turn it off if it is a bother. If you like to lay your phones together 99% of the time and only share to others 1% then turn it on just when it is needed.

BTW: There is a great new feature in Mail. Settings, Mail, Accounts, select that spam mail and just move the mail slider to off. You do not need to delete the account. If you want to toggle it back on just slide it back and the number returns. I just double checked it and it gets rid of that giant number. I think they brought that into IOS 2.

And finally... The few times I have seen numbers of unread messages like that I have felt I was dealing with someone who was not good at followthrough or getting things done (or even so self centered they ignore anything not immediately beneficial to THEM). It can create a bad impression. I would think that this is someone I would not bother emailing.
