I finally caved and allowed my phone to update itself to 15.2 after it started pestering me repeatedly (even though I thought this was supposed to be gone with iOS 15). Anyway, among the flurry of annoyances and outright bugs introduced with iOS 15, one of the most annoying is my phone constantly asking for my passcode. Literally, every morning when I wake up, my phone will not unlock without me entering entering my passcode - clearly incorrect behavior per the conditions for FaceID and when it requires a passcode. In addition to this daily morning behavior, my phone just randomly does this throughout the day. This isn't followed by repeated FaceID failures or anything else that should trigger the passcode requirement. WHAT THE HELL? I have reported this as a bug to Apple but have received no update on the bug report.

It's not a common or known bug. I guess something is not right with your Apple ID on your iPhone.

Completely sign out of your Apple ID in settings, reboot your iPhone and sign back in again. That solved similar issues I had back in iOS 13 on my iPad.

If you are like me, when you wake up you are tired, grumpy and swollen in the face. Use the function to Set up an Alternate Appearance and don’t look so freaking happy this time.

;-)

Worst thing they did was get rid of the touch ID. I refuse to update from an SE2 for that reason.
Face ID? Try asking my teenage identical twins how great that works.
They've both turned it off because they're sick of easily getting into each other's otherwise identical iPhones.

I wish that helped, but unfortunately it hasn't. And it also worked fine under iOS 14, so I don't now.

I already had to do this a few times after updating, because I was having FaceTime issues as well (still am). It didn't fix the FaceID problem.
