So looking at the latest keynote, Phil Schiller claims the iPhone 6 is now 50x the original iPhone at CPU stuff and 84x at GPU. I'm trying to map out the speeds for fun, here's what I have:

GPU
Original 1x
3G 1x
3GS 2x
4 2x
4S 14x (7x the 4)
5 28x (2x the 4S)
5S 56x (2x the 5)
6 84x (50% faster than 5S)

CPU
Original 1x
3G ???
3GS ???
4 5x
4S 10x (2x the 4)
5 20x (2x the 4S)
5S 40x (2x the 5)
6 50x (25% faster than 5S)

Can someone help me fill in the blanks here? I remember the 3G having the same chip as the original, I remember the 3GS was faster than the 3G, but I don't remember a drastic speed difference between the 3GS and the 4...

The iPhone 4's GPU was roughly 1.5-1.75 times that of the iPhone 2G. It's performance was less than that of the 3Gs'. The iPhone 3G's CPU was 1x with the 3Gs being 2x. The iPhone 4 was about 3x. The 4S was about 4.6x. The iPhone 5, ~12.25x. The 5S, ~16.54x. If the leaked benchmark for the 6 is accurate, it would be about 21.62x.

The 3G and the original iPhone are basically the exact same phone in a different case and with UMTS/HSPA hardware instead of just GSM/EDGE hardware. Their CPU and GPU performance there for are identical. (Even their model numbers differed only in the minor sense; iPhone 1,1 vs iPhone1,2).

The 4 was actually a little bit faster than the 3GS, though the difference is nowhere near as marked as between for instance the 4S and the 5. The 5 is where they really kicked it up a notch.
