I have recently put my iPhone 3g on Craigslist. I have received a lot of emails about it (almost 10 in 2 hours). Many of these emails are written somewhat grammatically like an 8 year old wrote them. Does anyone know of a scam out there? It almost seems to good to be true (the amount and frequency of responses) and the terrible English with which they were written is odd.

If you are asking this question, you should not sell anything on Craig's List.

Accept nothing except cash, in person at a public place or you will be screwed. Done.

Scams are terrible. I just don't feel comfortable using craigslist. I once sold a macbook pro and felt a little uneasy about it. I felt I was being prejudice which I am not, but because I was telling myself that I was, I went on with the transaction. Turns out my gut was right. He gave me a money order that looked legit. I deposited it and sure enough, a week later it was returned as being an altered money order. I couldn't get a hold of him. I thought I was out of all that money. At that time you could sell a powerbook for big bucks. The only good thing, someone mentioned to contact my homeowners insurance company, and here I was covered, "Theft by deception." But we all have to beware. I only use ebay for items I can ship and Paypal only. It is well worth the fees we pay, not only for us as a seller, but for buyers as well.

Same here, when I both buy and sale, its cash and in a public place. My favorite place to meet is at a Starbucks with anything small and electronic since they have both an electrical outlets and free Wifi.

I've been ripped once, because I didn't do my research on an unfamiliar product (item never worked properly after an hour, a known issue thats been heavily documented)
seller sold me his junk.

Sucks you got a bum deal, but thanks for passing the good advice about meeting at Starbucks.

Same scams still exist on CL. Never ship anything and never accept anything other then cash. I would never accept a money order for face to face sale. cash only. If they don't have cash on them, meet them at your local bank. I was selling my old iphone once and person i met with tried to give me fake bills. I offered to go to the police station with him but he just ran away
