iPhone deleted all accounts and cant re-add email account

Hello,

I searched a little for this topic but I cant find any answer, sorry in advance if it was already asked before.

I got following problem: My wifes iPhone deleted suddenly all her logins in several apps as well as removed the email accounts, meaning all her contacts are gone. Luckily they are saved with the email account. So I opened the iOS email client and see the screen to add a new account. I add her outlook account and come to the page where I am asked to select what parts the phone should synchronize. After clicking "save" I see the note on top saying "Accound added", then nothing happens. No button to click and the emails and contacts are also not there. I tried restarting several times but that also doesnt change anything.

Hope you guys have any suggestions what we could try, I am a longtime windows phone user, there I don't have these type issues (but I also don't have many apps, lol), so I have no clue what I should try to make it work again.

Does she have any profiles installed?

Settings > general > profiles?

Failing a dodgy profile I would do a reset

Settings > general > reset > reset all settings.

If still no joy then wipe the phone.

Settings > general > reset > erase all content and settings.

Try adding the Outlook account as "Exchange".

This exact thing happened to me last night. All my accounts were removed seemingly by magic.

I tried to re-enter an account and the phone behaved exactly as you described.

I ended up resetting the phone to factory and used an iCloud backup from the night before to get most everything back.

I have spent the better part of my day changing passwords to everything I have fearful I was somehow hacked. Especially financial accounts, emails, social media etc.

This is the only hit I could find that sounded like what happened to me.

I did an app update for a game I play before I put the phone down for bed. And I confirmed that the last backup happened just about the same time.

I remember thinking that the app was very large but I can’t logically believe it would delete all my accounts to make room.

Anyone have any clue what caused this??
