I've seen quite a few comments from people who know UPS/FedEx delivery people stating iPhone release day is, well, the day from hell for them. Signatures on every delivery, people stopping them to ask "do you have my iPhone", etc...

Normally I would not tip them (I always make sure I thank them), but given it is such a tough day for them, do you do anything special for them? I mean, if I were them, I might appreciate that simple gesture of "thank you" on a really tough day.

No?

I tipped a driver before for letting me take my new computer from him when I randomly found him in a nearby shopping plaza hours before he would have come to my house. Other than that, no.

Quite the opposite. I forget which year it was, I think it was the 4. As busy as they were, my nanny said they went back out to the truck and brought back dog treats for my 2 dogs. I think it was FedEx but I don't recall for sure.

The reach-around sounds like a good tip for me. This is THEIR JOB. So they need to hustle a little harder for one day... don't we all do that?

When I was a FedEx employee I got lots of "tips" like, "Go get a job at UPS and make $8 an hour more. Really, I did get offered money, phone numbers, trades....

I can honestly say that was the most stressful job in my life. No union to protect you either, even if you were a great employee, If they didn't like you, you'd be GONE.

Tip them if you want but they're just doing their job. Frankly, if you feel inclined to tip them for doing their jobs, do it on a day they wouldn't expect it whatsoever. Not that they're expecting tips on Friday, but if you want to pay them some respect, tip some random day in March or August. Give 'em a 6pack if you please.

I hate the fact that people feel the need to think tipping is customary for doing your job! Tipping in my opinion is for doing an exceptional job.

Now giving me a reach around while delivering my phone is doing an exceptional job and would justify a tip. lol
