I had to put down a $150 dollar deposit at best buy to get my iphone, when can i get this back and how do I go about doing that?

That is a question only AT&T can answer for you. Answers here will be speculation, sarcasm, and stories of "well when it was me".

You get it back by making on-time, in-full payments of your phone bill for 12 consecutive months. No late payments. No partial payments. Miss a payment by a day, or carry a balance of any amount beyond your payment due date, and the clock will start again at zero. So it's in your best interests to pay the bill on time and in in full, every time.

Once that happens, the deposit should be returned to you.

It's that simple. No speculation, sarcasm or stories. 😉

If this deposit was mandated by AT&T, you'll get it back in probably 11 months if you pay your bill on time each month. I had to pay a deposit when I purchased the 3G last year on launch day, and this year right before the launch of the 3GS I received a check in the mail from AT&T refunding it.

I put down a $250 deposit last year to get my 3G and just got a check in the mail yesterday for my deposit from AT&T. Make sure that you pay all your bills on time for the year and you should get a check in a mail in a year with the deposit.

Thanks that is what I was looking for.

So if you're 18 years old and have little to no credit, you pay a deposit up front to get the iPhone, correct?

This is as I understand it based on what a deposit really is..

Yes but you can be 40 with sh*tty credit and still need to pay a deposit.
Age is not really the factor so much as the credit history of lack thereof is.

must be nice for you all. I had to pay 2 $500 deposits plus the price of the 2 phones when I bought 2 iphones last year. I think its messed up they make you pay however many depoists as phones u have. I think it should be one contract per name one deposit per name, not per phone 🙁

Well, one security deposit per one subsidy is fair.

However, I think $500 deposit is just too high even if you have a horrible credit. IMO, $200/$300 iPhone price + another $300 security deposit should do.

If they asked for a $500 deposit (X2 !!!!!) what they were really saying was "We REALLY do not want you as a customer but if you're dumb enough to come up with a $1000 depost for 2 stinkin' cell phones I guess we'll have to give it to you."

ha! Thats was with my ladies credit. When they ran my info they wanted a $700 deposit per phone thats not including phone costs

I thought I would have to put a deposit down or that I would get denied a contract with AT&T but I actually got accepted. It was pretty weird because I'm pretty sure I don't have very good credit at the moment.

My Credit score is fair at best and I got in with a 100 deposit. My cousin went for a 3gs last week and At&t wanted 750😱

I had to do that with a company called Alltell when I was 17. I had to pay a $200 deposit since I wasn't 18 and didnt have credit history. I made my payments on time and got the check back next year.

I don't know what my credit is, but I'll be checking it next month when I can get my free yearly credit report. It must be pretty awesome for a 20 year old though because I didn't have to pay a deposit for my 3GS.
