Apple-Patent-water-iPhone.jpg

Normally Apple tends to use their Notch Design or old Home Button Design when filling their iPhone related Patents application. So this is the first time I have seen something like this. ( Correct me if I am wrong )

Personally I prefer the top and bottom to the symmetrical so adding a thicker bezel at the bottom would have looked better. But I would be happy even without it. Not to mention Apple could use Non-Flexible OLED that is much cheaper, or may be keep using LCD!

Edit: Before anyone getting overly excited about it. I do doubt this will actually happen.

Edit2: And no, that 230-D is not a camera. It is a speaker at the back of the devices.

In the presented form it will look like a step back for Apple, IMO. I was expecting them to start with something like this, but this design looks as if they would also add a hole for the camera in the upper-left corner of the screen? Let’s see...

Yes i highly doubt this will come to fruition. It basically looks like a Pixel 4, but with an added hole punch below the sensor housed forehead bezel! I want the the Notch gone like many others, but this is just a completely nonsensical and inefficient design!

Why would they put a forehead and chin just to get rid of the notch lmao, that's even worse

Once again, just because Apple patents something doesn't mean they will do it. I cannot see this ever happening on an iPhone. Notch or no bezel.

IMO this design makes more sense than cutting into the screen with a notch. I know I’m likely in the minority here but I kind of like the design. As far as the bezels go, I’d prefer some bezel over a notch. JMO.

The major problem with this design is that there is a hole punch camera in the main screen, when it should be in the forehead bezel with the other sensors. Also the bezels should be at least symmetrical (Like the galaxy s8/9).

Awful. & won’t happen. There are many patents lying around that didn’t work & this is one of them.

You still don’t get it.

The notch doesn’t cut into the screen. It isn’t a part of the screen. It’s a part of the status bar & allows for more screen size below it, in a smaller device. BUT, in some Apps it can display some of the screen, so it’s a flexible/efficient design, that also incorporates the most secure Face ID on any phone.

In the above patent, what you‘ll get is a much taller form factor with 2 rows of unused space (cameras + status bar) rather than one with the current design...

I’m shocked people still complain about the notch, thinking it reduces screen size. 🤦🏻

The most interesting thing in the discussion here, is how everyone automatically assumes 230-D is a punch hole camera.

It is not. Is is referring to the speaker at the back of that structure.

I guess no one actually read the article, the patents was about improving iPhone's Water resistance using similar technique in Apple Watch.

You're wrong. The screen is cutting into the upper bezel of the phone, not the other way around. 🤷‍♂️

It is worse. And I don’t even notice my notch. Quit noticing it in the first week after the X came out. Had XR and 11 since and doesn’t bother me.
Yea and devs were much quicker with fixing code with my 11PM than the XS Max. Some apps too months with the XS Max to move content from behind the notch.

Most apps are good now after recoding, but content even buttons were behind the notch in the beginning.

Ah ok.... to be fair to me when I initially posted I don’t think you had done your ‘Edit 2’, explaining that it was a speaker not a camera.

The notch doesn’t bother me neither.. maybe you guys that hate the notch with every fiber of your being need a bigger phone 🤓
