Is it the only option for making apps on the iphone? or can you straight up code?

I was wondering if anyone here has it? If so is it worth the 100 bucks? and does it do all the coding for you? and can you go back an edit the code it does?

You have to pay the $100 to join the program or you can't submit apps to the AppStore.

    I see.

I was under the impression that it was like a GUI program that you used and it put the code in for you... like frontpage

There's no such thing in terms of programming in any language. The closest it gets is dragging and dropping the interface.

But the interface is only 10%. The rest you have to code.

You seem to be mixing up two different things here, so to clarify:

    1. The $99 is to join Apple's iPhone Developer's Program which allows you to submit apps [that you have coded] to Apple's App store.

    2. The iPhone SDK (Software Developer's Kit) is the actual "program" you use to code these apps and it is a free download, so yes, you can "straight up code" away, but to get it to an iPhone (without just running it on the iPhone simulator on your Mac) you need to join the Developer's Program.

    Hope that helps.

    Ah! I understand now.

I'll go ahead and down the sdk then. Thanks for the help.

Do you have any experience with Objective-C or Cocoa?

I love reading these posts! Remember the person looking for an "app maker"?
