iPhone Duo Gets Its Own Case and Folio With Kickstand

Apple today introduced two dedicated accessories for iPhone Duo, its Case and a Folio with Kickstand.

The iPhone Duo Case is a thin, two-part design that wraps around both the front and back of the device. It uses built-in magnets that align with th iPhone Duo for what Apple calls a "magical attach experience." The case is made from polycarbonate with a matte coating and comes in Sand and Navy Blue.

The iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand takes a different approach, using TechWoven, Apple's custom technical fabric, and covering only the back of the device rather than wrapping the edges. It includes an integrated kickstand that snaps flush against the case when not in use and props up at a range of angles for reading, watching video, or FaceTime calls. It uses the same magnetic alignment, and Apple says it is able to charge via MagSafe behind the kickstand, even when it's propped open. The Folio with Kickstand is available in Taupe and Navy Blue.

Apple says both cases go through thousands of hours of testing during design and manufacturing, consistent with the rest of its case lineup. The iPhone Duo Case and Folio with Kickstand are currently unavailable, but will presumably become available for pre-order soon.

I wonder what magic is being used to ensure charging even with the kickstand is open. Maybe some circuitry in the hinge there?

The folio with kickstand is $129 and it completely covers the front display. And its taupe color is hideous.

Folio with kickstand is good. However it is costly. Besides I always prefer a Spigen for my iPhones.

Probably a simple coil in the kickstand, a flex cable, and another coil at the Magsafe coil. So it just transfers current from one coil to another. Which may lose a little energy too, as both coils will heat up. Good thing it has magnets for alignment.

Not a fan of either case to be honest. This is definitely gonna be a phone that will look and feel 100x better caseless, but who's gonna be that brave?

It's funny that the Duo exclusively supports the Apple Pencil (USB-C) and the Apple Pencil Pro is unsupported. The device support list for that pencil specifically is extensive.

Wow, it seems a lot of you don't know what options and preferences are. This is the folio... which acts like a folio... which means it will have a protective cover which... you guessed it, opens up as a folio revealing access to the outer display without coming off. If you don't like taupe, it comes in navy blue as well. If you don't like the idea of a protective front cover, don't get a folio for any of your devices.

I guess this is good if you are just using your phone at the desk, but they could have designed a small cutout to the front...it's a little weird ! I agree taupe is hideous.

I don't like these 2 cases. Hopefully, other companies will make better cases.
