iPhone Duo is Missing These 10 iPhone 18 Pro Features

There's not going to be a Duo Pro. The Duo is the Duo , the Pro is the Pro. Two different types of phones that serve different needs.

The single camera on the Air is my biggest complain about the Air. I've very disappointed they went with an ultra wide instead of a telephoto on the Dou, but it's an upgrade to the Air's camera system either way. It would have been better if they just removed the inside camera(not needed) and just added a third camera on the outside, or just remove it and make it cheaper.
they basically segmented them as the content creation pro workhorse device and the luxury executive lifestyle device. Pretty smart imo. sports car vs sedan

Actually not that much is missing. If they can get that third camera lens in there in gen 2 or 3 I will definitely buy.
Coming from a 17 Pro Max. Unsure how much I use the LIDAR without knowing it. Could someone tell me things I might be missing? Like can the Duo does the AR measuring with the Measure app or does that use LIDAR? Any other examples of LIDAR being used in unknown/unseen ways?
It makes sense since Apple have never made a Pro phone for anyone else than people taking photos, the Duo is the first phone with Pro features for us other people. I for one am happy they put their focus on something else than cameras this time, because I don’t care about the camera at all.

Contrary to rumours leading up to the unveiling, iPhone Duo is a consumer device despite the premium price. Apple has made a clear distinction in design between its professional workhorses (bulky, rugged and rough coatings) and its consumer devices (as thin as possible, chrome finishes). The Duo falls in the latter category.
Professionals who use their iPhones for high quality photography and video with industry standard tools and files are going to get an iPhone Pro.
It doesn't make the eyewatering prices easy to overlook but it helps distinguish the categories. I'll wait a couple years until there are fewer tradeoffs, I'll get an iPhone Air 2 early next year.

For me, lack of telephoto lens, FaceID, the matte screen are the major downsides and of course the price in my country/international markets.
Was ready to shell out $1999 for a foldable. But in my country it works out to around $3160 for 256GB. Even after all taxes and import duty, it should not cost more than $2740. More than $400 markup. Don't think I will buy one at these prices, especially for a first generation Fold.
Waiting for Apple to bring a telephoto lens to the Duo. Could happen in 2 years time, when Duo 3 launches.

I didn’t expect to want the Duo but I do. I also like taking photos. Plus my wife doesn’t want me to get the Due for cost reasons. Not sure if it’s worth worse photos and an unamused wife.

- A dedicated Telephoto camera with up to 8× optical zoom. Instead, the iPhone Duo's main 48-megapixel Fusion camera has "optical-quality" 2× zoom.
- Variable aperture for the main 48-megapixel Fusion camera, which provides greater control over depth of field in photos and videos.
- A higher-resolution 18-megapixel Center Stage front camera. On the iPhone Duo, this camera is 12 megapixels.
- Action button.
- Face ID. Instead, the iPhone Duo has a Touch ID button.
- LiDAR Scanner, which measures depth for augmented reality purposes.
- Other camera features: Pro controls in the Camera app, ProRAW, ProRes RAW, spatial photos and videos, and more.

Or, as a tech lover, I can choose to live life to the fullest and get a device that I'll enjoy the heck out of for the next year and trade it in next year. For some this is the 18 Pro Max, for others it's the Duo. As Flossy Carter says in some of his review videos, you never know if this will be the last phone you'll ever buy.
Many people won't be paying $2000 up front / out of pocket for this. Trade in of my 17 Pro Max shaves $885 off the price which is acceptable to me.

I have not noticed lack of LIDAR in moving from iPhone Pro Max to iPhone Air. The AR measuring still works on the Air, although it may be less accurate; others would have to chime in on that.
In my year of using the Air, the only two “missing” things I have noticed is the telephoto lens and the ultra-wide lens. I didn’t think I’d miss ultra-wide (and don’t really for photography) but sometimes taking pictures of things like nutrition labels to send to my wife is more difficult. I do miss the telephoto lens, but honestly speaking less often than I thought I would.
The main use case for lidar is actually faster and more accurate focus control. It's also used to create a more accurate depth pass in the image pipeline for simulated depth of field and post capture focus control.
