For some reason, using anything other than the marker felt font [in Dashboard stickies] looks odd to me. Without marker felt it does not look informal enough. I associate the imitated handwriting of marker felt with a non-permanent status, something preliminary, temporary. A piece of information that either won't be needed for a long time (like typing out a shopping list just feels wrong) or for which I need to still find a more permanent place.

This isn't a desktop computer...

You are correct, thankfully. ;)

Here's the problem, though. When you switch out of Safari for a length of time and come back to it, Safari reloads the pages. With these multiple pages processing concurrently, the phone can be bogged down significantly. It seems to be worse on dynamic websites, or if you have a large image as one of the pages.

Anyroad, it doesn't happen all the time, but I've noticed it a few times with two pages open.

Got mine today. Loving everything (including the Notes app :) )

ATT is waiting for Verizon to switch my old numberr so I havent tested voicemail yet, but everything else works.

Best purchase ever. Period.

A+

Overall, I'm impressed with my iPhone. I agree with Gruber's criticisms, but they are pretty minor complaints, and could easily be fixed with software updates. If this is all Apple has to fix then they are looking real good.

It needs cut and paste; it also needs double-tap select for deletes rather than one character at a time.

I find the internet to be very useful. I've already used it to plan a route to a few different stores. I used to do this on my computer before I left, but now, on the road, I can find stuff. Love it!

Activation took all of two minutes. Syncing is fast and simple. The screen is extremely bright and easy to see in the glare of sunlight.

The iPhone is a game changer for sure. Replacing my laptop with an iMac...the new ones of course. Waiting....

Overall this thing is really slick. I can only think of a few " need to have now" applications. MMS, iChat and voice calling for bluetooth headsets. I am finally happy with a cell phone!

I have no idea where to ask this, or if it's been asked an answered already, but I'm going to ask anyway...

Is there a way to change the keyboard layout? Like changing it to the Dvorak layout as an example?

MMS receiving painful!

I got my iPhone yesterday... and its definitely awesome. I've read for months about the lack of MMS and it didn't seem like a big deal to me since I could always email pictures to people (and most mobile networks let you email directly to a cell phone anyway). However I just experienced the worst part of this limitation: When you receive an MMS picture message, your notification is an SMS txt message with a web page to go to and a pretty long message id and password to type in. This would be fine since Safari can open up the page, however the SMS message does not include the "http://www." part -- so the SMS app doesn't recognize it as a web link. Combine that with the lack of copy/paste, and you have very little hope of being able to view the picture message on your phone without a pen and paper handy!

This is an unfortunate situation because the fix is so easy -- in the SMS message that is sent, simply include the "http://" part and include the message id and password in the url. That way all you do is click on the link and Safari pops up with your picture message!

Sounds like you hit on a bug... I doubt anyone intended that you have to type any aspect of a URL.

that stress test is brutal.

i was wanting him to throw it up in the air.

lol oh please, are you kidding? I know it's not as complex, but they were running the iPod nano over with a car, and finally had to throw it as high as they could into the air and let it drop to the ground until it finally stopped working.

AT&T has me at 6000 degrees right now. I can see the blood boiling behind my eye sockets.

lol...it's not funny but how you worded it was. I'm in the same boat...I walked out with a blazing trail of fire coming out of there with there "exchange" policy.

The stress test looked incredible.

I think anyone with an iPod worried about the durability of this device more than anything.

Nice job, Apple.

... Still loving my HTC 8525. Pulling 900k~1.3mb on the train home right now. I'm sure all the iPhone lovers are loving the Edge only support. Maybe Steve didn't realize that all the WiFi Hotspots don't cover the Metro lines. :)

Anyway, I wouldn't mind having one, but it would not my be main phone. I enjoy my 3G HSDPA too much.

from my iPhone.

Only my second day with it and I'm already getting attatched!

Pros:

1. Interface is very "snappy"
2. Nothing short of the REAL Mac OSX underpinnings.
3. Relying on the keyboard's intelligence makes typing very fast.
4. Youtube videos on EDGE look better than any phone I've used.
5. Sound quality is almost audiophile.
6. The viewing angle is above average.
7. The screen is clear in any lighting condition.
8. No bugs found yet.
9. EDGE network is fairly fast.
10. Activation, mail, and syncing was easy to setup.

Cons:

1. Speakerphone could be louder.
2. No video capture.
3. No unlimited minutes.
4. No flash in safari.
5. The Bluetooth doesn't seem fully featured.
6. Keyboard (in safari) slows down when there is not a stable connection.
7. Wallpaper doesn't apply to home screen.
8. No multimedia messages.
9. No keychain or autofill.
10. No way to organize icons.

i wouldnt want a super fancy note taking program...it's just to jot something down real quick...it shouldn't be fancy. less is more sometimes! but maybe they fired apple's design team in order to hire more iPhone engineers...

Funny, I just returned a Blackberry 8830 back to Verizon after realizing i could get outlook web access on safari which was fast enough on edge; would have been nice to have 3G hopefully coming soon. At home and office and most places in between wifi is freely available.

I got my 8GB iPhone in hand at about 6:14PM on Friday. I was seventh in line at the AT&T store of about 57 people. We don't have an Apple Store here. Nobody had to camp out. First person in line was there at 9AM, I was there at noon. Three news crews came by, one came back again for a follow up. Not everyone was going to get one, the AT&T employee said that a fair number (10-15) were in a gray area. I didn't stick around to find out if they actually got one or exactly how many there were.

Activation of the iPhone was really easy on iTunes and took less than five minutes. I was not an AT&T customer and I didn't want to cancel my other service so I opted for a new number. Maybe that's why it was so fast and easy.

First, I want to say that the iPhone is a *lot* to take in at once. I watched all the videos beforehand and it still packs a bunch of features, tons of them undocumented. I'm still finding new things that it does.

The keyboard is really great. The dictionary works great and when you're trying to spell something not in the dictionary, you can hold you finger down on the keys and slide it until you get the right key. That's a great feature.

A small gripe for Mail, it does not have a spam button (at least not for Yahoo Mail, which is what I was trying.)

Safari was my main reason for getting the phone. I have to say that it does disappoint me a little tiny bit. Informationally, the web is all there. But you can only click and scroll. No double click or drag and drop, so 3rd party apps are going to really be limited on this phone.

And finally, my main gripe is that Safari sometimes adds extra space to the right of many different pages. The iChess and listingly 3rd party apps designed to fit the page have to be pinch-zoomed in order to see them even though they are only 320 pixels wide. (The page appears to be 750-1000 pixels wide by default.)

I have to say I love this phone and I can live with the couple of annoyances because this is one %&*# sweet @$# phone! Very glad I got it. If you haven't already, go buy yours *now*!

Wow, they couldn't even damage it when they TRIED to? That's a feat of presently underestimated proportions, I think, seeing as most electronics require deliberate and active care to prevent damage and wear.

I wasn't going to get one, but all you people with your crazy reviews... I was planning on upgrading from Macbook --> Pro, but it may have to be Macbook --> Macbook and iPhone!

I just upgraded my Macbook to Macbook Pro..
NO $$$ for the iPhone now.. but still i am happy with my machine and old phone :)
