iPhone fails to collect email

[markwise]

email via Gmail account used to work flawlesly on my iPhone.
Now iPhone doesn't collect the incoming email for hours while at the same Gmail account on my iMac I received loads of emails.

I have a strong WIFI network connection on the iPhone

What can possibly be wrong ?
Is this a bug more people have complained about ?
