You missed one: Being able to disable customising wallpapers from the lock screen. It's incredibly annoying to pocket edit the lock & home screens.

Who cares about all of this, Apple needs to update the actual PHONE! Lets' steal the "Hold For Me" from Google. Nothing worse than sitting on hold for hours with that horrible music.

How many people have HomeKit all messed up? Asking for a friend.

Well, 16.2 didn’t require changes to HoneKit.

So you can upgrade to 16.2 without breaking a thing.

Now if you have 16.2 and you go into home app and home settings and software update - you will be presented with the option to “upgrade” HomeKit architecture.

*that* “upgrade” is buggy as hell, and caused us and a lot of other people massive headaches.

So if you really depend on HomeKit I would recommend waiting a while for them to work out the kinks on this optional HomeKit architecture “upgrade”. Wait until a dot release mentions HomeKit bug fixes. Maybe 16.2.1 or 16.2.2…

Again - you don’t have to modify your HomeKit at all because of 16.2 - it will continue to work just fine.

One feature not mentioned in the article but is sorely needed - as many of us learned in the past 24 hours - is HomeKit backup.

We need to be able to backup our home in HomeKit.

There is currently no way to do so - and when it breaks it can be a huge hassle if lots of HomeKit accessories are all over your house.

How about making freeform work? Attaching notes in its original format simply doesn’t happen, and sharing PDF content directly from third-party apps is impossible The only option is copying to files and then into Groups.

Or making Siri useful.
Or making the natural speech work in main languages, not just English.
Or a better keyboard or keyboards layouts/sizes?.
IOS is fine, just fine. Nothing new is truly useful or innovative, just catching up.
Speech works in English?!? Nah!
I work in speech tech and write a column about speech tech. Currently I’m quantifying exactly how bad iPhone speech reco is. Hint: 5+ yrs behind. And Siri is a one word joke.

My bigger complaint is all keyboards on iOS absolutely suck compared to my Android Google keyboard. I spend more time correcting than I do actual input. Apple, Google, Microsoft are all bad on the iPhone compared to the Google swipe keyboard on any of my Android phones.

Sounds like you should just use Android and stop complaining to an Apple forum on an Apple site about the Apple products. If you don’t like them and the other guys are so much better - switch and be happy.

Agreed. Also - maybe this is just me, but the outgoing ring volume seems to be at maximum at all times regardless of the volume settings or adjustments during the call itself. Once the user (or their voicemail answers) the volume normalizes but the actual ringing is brutal.

Yes, Apple officially touts FLAC as “supported” in the official specs but they still actively block you from adding the files to your device’s music library, as you would with any other common audio file format. This is plainly anti-consumer behavior, and I don’t know how they are able to openly claim support while taking deliberate measures to limit the intended use of the files. Of course, few people are knowledgeable enough or care enough to challenge them on this anyway.

I still enjoy the native support since it means I can play flac through Plexamp and such without conversions. I wish Apple Music had native support though.
