Amazed that all anyone thinks about is the cost of the machine and whether it will get broken or lost!
Why would any parent offer their child 24 hour a day unsupervised access to the web and all that entails. A kid needs a phone to call mommy and daddy period. It's NOT about "trust", it's about protection, it's a parents job to create a nurturing, safe environment for their child not the chance to be approached by perverts and the like. Your child has plenty of friends but only you are the parents.
Sorry kids but I have to agree with this:

New iPhone for my 14 year old son on contract $399.00
Otter box to protect the new iPhone for my 14 year old son $35.00
Dragging up a 4 year old thread so no named person can knock my choice, priceless.

Ok I don't have a 14 year old.... my 8 year old however has one of my old 3gs's (activated and usable as a phone). What you think about that Mr. Helper?

I thought I made some stupid decision, but you sir, take the cake.

Why an 8 year old would need internet on a phone? Beyond me...

Do you let him on chatroulette also?

Well, it depends... I'm 14 and I have an iPhone. I paid for it myself. I am paying for the monthly plan. Under these circumstances, I think this makes sense.

So you joined MR at the age of 9?

Well played, sir. I'll jump on the dogpile and include a link from mrat93 in 2007 claiming to be 13 years old. I love the Internet.

I'm 13 and I've always wondered people saved the image on their screen as a picture file on a PC. Someone please help me.

Why is it so hard to believe this kid was the age he said???
His joined date was 2006. The thread you posted from him claiming to be 13 was posted in Jan 2007. And this stupid thread where he posts being 14 was in oct 2007. Seems he may have had a birthday in that 9 month Span.

All my friends including myself have had iPhones since we were 12-13 years old. I suggest you see what the child's friends are using to make sure it makes sense.

Woops just realized its an old thread. Fail.

I know this was posted last year, but still, wow. It's funny seeing people argue about my age last year based on a post I made four years before that. It's crazy thinking that I was 14 and just starting high school when I posted in this thread. I'm 19 and in college now. Time flies, man.

Anywho... Looking back, of course I didn't need an iPhone back then, but it was a nice thing to have. I was one of the only freshmen in my high school who had a smartphone. By senior year, I'd say 80% of my grade had them, and maybe 30% of freshmen had them. Smartphones are hardly a luxury item anymore.
