I was in the middle of syncing my iPod when it froze. The screen is now black with the apple picture on it and the blank sync bar under the apple. I tried to hold down the button on the top to reboot and shut down but it didn't work. Please help... please...

Thanks in advance.

OMG! You're a lifesaver!!! That worked but then it showed the iTunes and USB picture on the screen so I plugged it in and now iTunes is saying I have to restore it. When I was about to do that, it gave me the message that everything would be erased -- media and all. Is there any way around this? I don't want to lose everything on my phone. Thanks again.

It's no big deal, just do it and restore from backup.

Damn... some of my apps didn't transfer. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to redownload them. But at least it works. Thanks sooooo much!

As long as they are in iTunes, you can just check them and they will sync. If you still think something is missing, you can check for available downloads, but restoring the iPhone would not have deleted apps from the computer.
