Hi since I totally switched over to using Chrome and all other Google apps my iPhone has been getting hot and often get a warning that my iPhone is going to shut down and / or I need to shut it down.

Is it the Chrome / Google apps? If what’s the solution? Thanks!

There's no reason to use Chrome on an iPhone unless you like the interface. All browsers on iOS use the same WebKit rendering engine. If chrome heats up the iPhone, use Safari

Have you been using the phone in a hotter environment or in the sun more often recently?

At first it was happening in my car plugged into power. I thought it was that at first. Then the last 5 days started happening in my air conditioned house without being hooked up to power.

I prefer the Chrome interface and because it integrates with pc and iPad. I have an online business and use lots of Chrome plug ins. When I’m out an about with my iPhone or iPad and doing tasks related to my business I need these take to integrate integrate to my pc when I get home.

For instance for my business I’m often on desk top version on my iPhone or iPad. I often bookmark websites and other info so it can sink to Chrome. Then when I get to my pc I’m able to further my tasks.

I will have to look into Safari extensions and see if Safari offers the same extensions as Chrome does and see how Safari works on a pc.

It's unusual for the phone on its own to overheat to the point that it shows a warning. You might want to try reinstalling some apps if not even iOS itself, but if this is something that keeps on coming up it could be more of a hardware issue of some sort.

Conversely, there's no need to use Safari - since all browsers on iOS use the same Webkit rendering engine.

So you think it’s not Chrome causing this issue and other Google services?

iOS content blockers work more effectively with Safari. Therefore from a security standpoint, Safari is a better iOS browser than other iOS browsers even if they are all using the same underlying WebKit rendering engine.

I've had zero problems with Dolphin blocking ads since 2012 (when I first started using it). Opera is pretty good too.

I get that a lot of people love Safari and are very partial to it and as Apple's default browser it's what most people use. But I'm not a fan of Safari.

I didn't say that. I don't know if it is or not.

What I was responding to was the common reflex around here to just use Safari. There are other browsers in the app store and since they all function the same way, that means you have a choice.

Safari is not the be all end all of browsers on iOS or Mac, as much as a lot of people would like it to be.

Hell, I am no lover of any web browser. I have been known to refer to them collectively as "browser poison" from time to time. They all of their strengths and crippling weaknesses.

But, a web browser is a necessary piece of Internet software and all of the content blocker developers specifically write their code for Safari. I know other browser developers may include content blocking features, some better than others. I've tried most of the free browsers over the years.

The reality remains that there is currently no production iOS version that lets a user select a different default web browser. If you click a hyperlink somewhere else on iOS (Mail, app, whatever), Safari will fire up. You can't ignore Safari even if you want to. More than any other iOS browser, it is integrated with the rest of the system.

How's that iCloud Keychain password thing working for you with Dolphin?

I gave up Opera when the company was sold to the Chinese. I also don't trust Brave because of senior management's track record (both at Brave and at previous places of employment). There are tons of fly-by-night privacy browser developers and it's really hard to get a read on who is legit, who might be shady and who is just a hack.

So I've settled on iOS Firefox (ugh) for Incognito mode surfing until something better comes along. I don't use any of the Firefox syncing features because Mozilla Foundation's poor management track record.

Nothing like that should be causing issues of the sort that was described. If it's something that happens regularly something more than just apps would be involved.

Safari for Windows PCs was discontinued years ago.

You may wish to investigate the newest version of Microsoft Edge on your Windows PC. It is using the same underlying browser (Chromium) as Google Chrome.

That said, if you are completely devoted to all thing Google, for sure they will make sure their services are best integrated with their browser software, regardless of the underlying rendering engine.

However since there is no evidence that the problems you are witnessing are widespread otherwise this forum (and many others all over the Internet) would have a huge number of discussions about the matter.

More likely there is something specific to your combination of hardware-software or possibly the websites that you are visiting.

I'm jailbroken. It's a simple matter of a tweak to redirect links to open in the preferred browser. One of the myriad reasons I jailbreak.

Not sure on how to answer that. I use different browsers on different platforms and login to each one. I don't use a keychain for that, it comes through the syncing of the browser if I happen to be using the same one.

Currently, I'm using Microsoft Edge on my iPad though.

That said, 99% of my web browsing is done on a computer. I hate using small dinky screens for anything more than cursory scanning of internet stuff.
