ok so i was chatting wit my friend right this afternoon n he showed me how his iphone has a turn-by turn guidance.... i was like wtf what program u using? he said it was gpsx i tried it as well but it take a loooooooooooooooong time to get the maps but he said as long as i have a gps software that has the offline maps wit it.... i can do turn by turn gps without a problem... this hasnt been mentioned yet because of the software licensing problem that apple has wit the companies....

so how is this true? because i really need a gps-enabled fone n this is the reason why im gunna switch to n97..... but before that i just wanna make sure because i love my iphone

The iPhone 3G and 3GS have GPS, but it requires internet to load the maps, so if you are outside of wifi you will need a data plan. The 1st gen iphone does not have GPS. And I agree with kmpowell, lol.

a-gps means Assited GPS, which is to say that while fetching a true location from GPS satalites, it polls the local cell tower for a general location, meaning is faster that the N97 you were thinking of.

At least two companies are about to produce turn-by-turn software with maps included so you don't have to rely on a data signal.
