Hey I am in a contract with verizon and i am switching to att. I am going to buy a iphone I can't really afford the att plan for the iphone could i jailbreak it and unlock t for a cheaper plan from att.
Thanks :apple::apple::apple:

The AT&T system recognizes the IMEI of the phone and will know you are using an iPhone. People here have reported that changing their SIM to another phone changes the phone shown on the account management page.

The SIM is unique to the iPhone anyhow. You can put an iPhone SIM in any other AT&T phone and use it but you can't the other way around. You'd have to deal with unlocking but then you'd be right back to the IMEI recognition.

eh your in the wrong forum, this is the "when will the 3g iphone get released forum" lol

not sure exactly about the US but over here yes, get a new contract phone, buy an iphone and unlock it to run on your new plan. But be warned your warranty is out the window!!!!!!
over here you can buy just a sim card and contract called simplicity which you can use with any phone(obviously not meant for the iphone but hey don't tell them) unlock your iphone and your good to go.

Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but about the only way you could get a "cheaper" plan from AT&T would be to drop the data part (would the visual voicemail even work w/o the data plan?), to save $20/month, giving you basically, a heavier, more expensive iPod Touch...

Why not just buy the iPod Touch, and get a free phone on a cheap plan from AT&T? Seems to me that's what you'd be getting anyway...

If you're going to stay on AT&T, don't unlock it. All you need to do is have them drop the data plan. That will save you $20 per month.
