I quite literally went to the Apple store to buy a phone with the intention of buying it and unlocking it, while looking at the device more closely, I noted the IMEI on the back of the handset, then I remembered about IMEI blocking.

What will happen if O2 barr all unlocked iphones from their network because the imeis havent been registered as having had a contract or whatever, is this legal? Is it possible?

It would probably be illegal to block the IMEI of a device which is not stolen...

It'd be pretty bang out of order.

No they cannot block your imei. There has been a law suit against t mobile in some country and also orange in france because apple have not been giving people the opportunity to choose there networks and they now sell a sim free version. So technically they cannot barr it because unlocking a device is not actually illegal in the first place unless your changing your imei number is what i have been told

Absolutely, and they don't have to give Apple a share!
