iPhone IMEI unlock checkers

Been out of it for a few months. Any site that does IMEI checks for unlock/lock state for the iPhone that is free of charge? Everywhere I google, it seems to ask me to either pay for the check or the unlock itself when I don't even know if it's unlocked.

Getting another SIM at this time is not an option.

Not sure if this one shows unlock status, but it will tell you if it is clean.

I know it's clean. It's a friend's phone. I just need to know if its unlocked or not. Long story short, we aren't sure due to series of events.

put a SIM card in it from another carrier. that's the only way to be 100 percent sure.

Like I said, that's not an option. Technologically impaired friend, and a 600+ mile distance between him and me.

I checked it on 2 phones, one I knew was unlocked and one I knew was locked. Got it right both times. It actually got it right for the same phone before and after the unlock.

People have used iphoneimei but it's not 100% accurate.

The problem with these "unlock checkers" is they also provide unlocking services and some unscrupulous sites may say it's locked even if it's unlocked to get you to use their services.

I checked mine first (which I know for a fact its unlocked) and it stated unlocked. Checked friend's and its unlocked.

I've checked three IMEI numbers and all of them return SIM lock status of Unknown. Strange. Or is that what it returns if the phone is locked?
