Hiya

I'm having a couple of iPhones coming over from the UK.

Another friend has asked if I could get him one but I've realised he is on 3 Network.

Is he going to be able to use his sim card in the iPhone as I've heard that 3 won't work.

Thanks

You got me interested with the Oz part. I was wondering if it was in the land of Oz or in the Oswald State Correctional Facility.

Now I have to assume you meant Aussi?

Yes I did mean Australia. Maybe I should have changed it. Oh well.

I guess then his choice is not to bother or just use it as a iPod Touch.

Yeah, 3 only have 3G sim cards so it won't work in the iPhone as far as I know.

Ahh? What? Vodafone Germany has 3G SIM cards and they work in an iPhone. Even my israeli pre paid card work in my iPhone, and there is not even an EDGE network in Israel.

Phone will always work. Basta!

Thanks, I'll tell him and let him make the decision whether to get one.

Ahhh, wait.

Friend just told me that some 3 Network SIM cards are actually USIM. Your friend shall check what kind of chip he has.

USIM might not work.

Edit:

See here under section 2:

Once you've unlocked the iPhone, you can stick in any GSM SIM you want! Optus, Vodafone, Telstra, etc. all work fine. Except 3. 3 don't use GSM. 3's network is a UTMS network, a whole different technology to GSM. So they use a USIM, instead of a SIM. I won't get too technical on you, but rest assured, your 3 SIM, when placed in an iPhone, will not work, so move over to another telco if you want iPhone lovin'.
