Alright I'm going to France & Spain in about a week and a half and I need to bring my phone with me to make calls. I only plan to use the calling feature...(don't need data, plenty of wi-fi to use I have heard). I only plan to use the feature for a couple of minutes each day.

If I go without telling AT&T or anything will my phone work over there? Is there anything special I need to do to connect it to a network or something to make it work? Should I get a calling plan (I'm only going for 8 days)?

anyone who has actually gone oversees with the phone? thanks.

    I'm using a 3G, if that makes a difference.

It will "just work," but I highly recommend you add the international voice plan and turn data roaming off.
