iPhone in Korea: yes or no?

this question has been asked in other threads but so far it doesn't seem to have a definitive confirmation from someone on the ground in South Korea.

If I buy an iPhone in the US, can I get it to work in Korea (on their network, not roaming)

no because in korea networks only work with phones that are registered within their database, i think so..

Plus there's no Wi-Fi in Korea yet
That's the one of big reason why iPhone 3G hasn't release in Korea
