You can get a different phone and should be able to get it working with that sim. That being said, if your contract is up, you can modify your plan to remove the data so you are not paying for it.

But here is a warning... if you have unlimited now, one you give that up, you are not getting it back. That also goes for if you get a dumbphone AT&T will probably put you on a plan for it automatically (they can sense your phone) and that will give up your unlimited as well as the only way to keep it is to keep it grandfathered (meaning it doesn't get dropped).

If you don't have unlimited, no worries though as the other plans are current.

Thankfully I never have had the need to try this on a phone but worked on a netbook I once had

I was almost done with a WISP install when a sudden storm rolled in and began pouring rain
I was on a roof with my netbook and managed to get some rain in it before I could get to shelter

Immediately took battery out
When at home I tore it as far apart as I could and set it in front of a fan for entire weekend
Monday morning - no love
Thru it all in a box and figured I would wait till city had another appliance/electronics drop off day

That day rolled around months later and I figured I would give it one last shot
It worked
Until I dropped it off a roof months later when faced with choice of saving my ass or my tool bag...

Tell me more.

Your life seems quite adventurous!

Let the phone sit in rubbing alcohol (higher % the better) for at least 10-15 minutes then light it dry in a sealed container of (uncooked) rice (or desiccant as mentioned above), preferably under a light. If you're lucky the phone will work after the cleansing. My iPhone 3G took a plunge a few years ago and didn't work for 2 or 3 days after cleaning it. It has been functioning normally ever since. Hopefully all you need is a good cleaning.

Soaking it in alcohol and setting it on fire would certainly dry it out. Obviously, he meant "let", but I coudlnt resist. :)

Lighting it on fire will dry it out quickly.

:)

You need to be more careful. People that don't take care of their belongings tend to lose them. Especially an iPhone, which I can see that it costed you good, unfortunately I can't help you, so maybe get a cheap prepaid phone and hold till December ;)

I was an idiot for slipping my previous phone (which I liked a lot) in a shirt pocket and going into the head with seat and lid up. It went in the toilet (clean bowl fortunately) after I reached down to pick up a towel.

It was ruined and it was Motorola, not Apple so no possibility of a new phone. My iPhone has never been in the bathroom.

Go into the Apple store and tell the Genius exactly what happened. If you lie and say, "I don't know what happened, I swear. :(" they're obviously not going to believe you, they'll be pissed that you tried to lie and they'll ask you to pay the $200 out of warranty rate for a new phone.

However, if you're completely honest, there have been many stories of people getting free replacements. It seems to be more commonplace now. Try your luck! The worst they can do is say no. Just don't lie. :)

Thanks.

We can't swing that right now, main reason being as our contract was up in October and we are kind of waiting to get iPhone5 as Christmas presents and renew in December, so just need a functioning phone until then.

Well for one thing you could get an out of warranty replacement for $200 from Apple without extending your contract, this would give you an iPhone 4 in VERY good condition to sell in a few months when the next iPhone is released, this should be well more than enough to cover your carrier's subsidized fee for the next iPhone. Additionally, as others have stated, you may get lucky at the Genius Bar and get a free replacement, which would put you in an even better situation. It certainly doesn't hurt to try.

Something happened to my Samsung E45 like that too. I got it and one week later, went to the pool and had it in my pocket, it was so small and light, I took a dive with it and stayed with the phone in my swimming shorts for like 15 minutes, needless to say when I got out, I was really sad seeing my phone driping water like a dam. Sad really...

PS: couldn't resist ^^
