No, that is not true. No, unlocking and hactivating your phone, on the other hand, can cause push notification registration problems, but not always.

I have jb 2g iPhone with push and youtube working.(3.1.2)
Used blackra1n to jb. Also I can use T-Mobile and AT&T sim cards.
