just got my iphone 3G and every once in a while, i get an error that no SIM is installed. I have to pop it out and then back in again. Is anyone else getting this error?

Is it my sim or my iphone. I am having no luck with apple product lately.

    Sim

I would try the old scotch tape trick and if that didn't work take it right back and get a new one!

The problem could go either way. I would suggest contacting AppleCare, they will walk you through some diagnostics to see what the problem is. They will likely have it replaced, SIM and all.

    Tape Trick

All you do is put a piece of scotch tape on the back of the sim card, side without the contact. Just tape it on and trim it up to the shape of the card. Hope this helps.

    Happened to me....

This also happened to me. Since my iPhone 3G was brand new, I just took it to my local Apple Store. They looked at it for about 2 minutes as I explained the problem and decided it would be best to replace the phone all together. If you have access to an Apple Store, I would recommend taking it in for a possible replacement. :apple::)

    Hope this helps!

If I was having this kind of problem I'd be in the Apple Store for a replacement the very next day. No reason to have to deal with this kind of problem, that's probably related to a flaky connection somewhere. Get it fixed while you're still under warranty for certain.

I have been to the Apple store twice with the no SIM installed problem. The first time a reboot worked although it was in intermittent problem that is all they did. I am just back from another failure and they replaced the SIM card which was totaly frustrating because I don't want ot have to go back again.

I've done all of the other stuff like reseat the SIM, blank and restore the software.

What is mosttroubling is my fear that this will happen while I am out of toan and out of reach of an apple store and be stranded without a phone.

This is reason number 2 as to why I have an old Cingular phone around (actually my old phone). The main reason I still have it is for when I'm out, like near water, and don't want to risk destroying my iPhone. The second reason is that if there is ever a problem with my iPhone, I can just pop out the SIM, stick it in my old phone, and viola, I have a telephone again.

I had this with my first iPhone. Turns out the slot was too big, so it shakes the sim card out of place. You can go to your settings and reset your network settings so it reads the sim again. That's a short-term solution, but they ended up giving me a new phone.
