iPhone lasting 8 hours on wifi is not true

My iPhone on wifi it is a 4s barely last 5-6 hours on wifi why does apple say 8 hours.

I am guessing it's a "nominal" 8 hours. It all depends how you spent your usage I guess? I have been known to get around 7 hours and 45 min with general usage...

Yeah, a lot of it depends on what you're doing, while on that wifi. It's an up to time, not guaranteed.

Companies test the battery in a factory environment where everything is controlled. In the real world there are many other factors; for example if you have a weak signal that keeps dropping out.

Was the phone in airplane mode? It would need to be if you want 8 hours on wifi.

Battery life decreases as you use it more and it depends on what you do.

Your usage was heavier then their test usage hence the lower battery life.

I've been extensively using my 4S on 3G for the last couple of days, can't say I'm disappointed with the battery.

Yep that's why on the iPhone specs page on the apple website it has a little "5" next to "power and battery" and when you scroll down to the bottom of the page and read point 5, it says:

"All battery claims depend on network configuration and many other factors; actual results will vary. Battery has limited recharge cycles and may eventually need to be replaced by Apple service provider. Battery life and charge cycles vary by use and settings. See www.apple.com/batteries and www.apple.com/iphone/battery.html for more information."

Yup, it's a lie. It doesn't make any difference what functions and apps are turned on. I doesn't matter what you do with the phone. It doesn't matter if it's just on standby, or in constant use.

Non of that matters. It's a lie!!!

I basically bought this iphone 4s to use as a giant iPod touch, lol (with a more powerful A5, more RAM, and a bigger battery).

Everything is dependent on your use. Apple (just like ANY manufacturer) tests products in the best possible environment/conditions.

8 hours is what you CAN get, not what you always will get.
