The chick who demoed delicious library probably hadn't used the app before tonight. All she basically said was "lol we compiled this on the way here and...welp...it just lists the junk u already have. kthxbai."

I assume it will support the older phones as the 3G S installed base will be quite small by comparison for a while (most people who want to upgrade have to wait for their contracts to "mature", for one thing). So it wouldn't make good financial sense for it to be 3G S only, it'll probably just run at a slower frame rate and with not quite as fancy effects on the older models.

Hey, what do you think you're doing bringing logic into this discussion? ;)

And since you did the logic thing, I'll do the research thing and cite a source to back you up.

Carmack said the project will run on iPhones and iPod touches running on iPhone OS 2.x; the company plans an update in the future that will exploit some iPhone OS 3.x features, as well.

Hell yeah to id Software for bringing back both Doom Classic and Doom Resurrection.

i wonder how the aiming works... pointing on you enemy with your fingertips would be awfull....

All you gamers out there --- just wait another 3-4 months until a major developer creates a new game from the ground up with OpenGL ES 2.0 and the new hardware in mind! It will be awesome..

And the people who worry that the new hardware bifurcates the market:

1) Game developers are used to creating gaming engines that dynamically scale lighting, texture, and polygon count for different performance profiles..

2) Most importantly, you have to remember that previous to the iPhone, the only way to make any money in mobile phone gaming was by supporting a dozen platforms running on 100 different devices --- all with varying hardware!

Having to maintain titles on two different sets of iPhone hardware is nothing! But because using the full set of OpenGL 2.0 capabilities requires a lot of work that doesn't apply to the OpenGL 1.0 version, so don't expect to see that type of work in $2 games.

And the seventh post is someone trolling. Lucky number seven!

Judging from your posting history, you like to call people whiners a lot. Does that make you feel good about yourself? You're a better and stronger man than all of us, no doubt about that!

He is right, people always whine. This app indeed is impressive.

Delicious Library

Can't wait for the Delicious Library app! Do you think this will be a free app? They have taken ages to release this!

Just read Carmack's development notes for Doom Classic - wireless multiplayer Doom between iPhones sounds awesome :)

That's the biggest problem with iPhone games, smearing your finger around the screen to try and play them...

Do games designers realize that having your hand in the way of the screen can detract from the gameplay somewhat!

Wolfenstein wasn't bad, we had a little virtua-pad thing... maybe the camera can look at your fingers and see which way they're pointing!
possibly...

Is it just me, or does that game look hard as **** to control? The aim cursor is pretty much flying all over the screen throughout the whole demo, rarely coming over an enemy.

Anyone think a Quake III port will come? I know someone ported it to PocketPC a while ago. I tried it out on my Palm Treo. If they can do something Doom 3-esque, they can certainly to Quake III, RTCW, UT99 (GOTY)... the list goes on. :D

Half-Life 2, anyone? :D

That looks pretty good actually. Something about it looks a little off and I can't put my finger on what, and I'm not happy with the iphone as a gaming platform since my fingers get in the way of whats happening onscreen. Meh.
I hope they port this to the DS.

Speaking of Sountracks

I believe that song is from the original Doom 3 soundtrack.
Definitely a Tool sound-alike

Speaking of Soundtracks...I think Quake 1 has the best soundtrack of all the ID games...Nine Inch Nails did a great job on that game.

If anyone can push the iPhone to its limits, it's John Carmack. The initial release will be available to all three generations, with an update that is exclusive to the 3Gs soon after. Immediately after that, a percentage of the previous generation owners will complain about the update and how they can't run it.

Does anyone else think that in a couple years from now apple will unintentionally be competing with PSP/DS I mean these little devices are getting more and more powerful all the time!

I believe they are already competing. Both of my girls (5 and 7) are getting the latest touch as soon as it's released. They wanted DSs until I showed them the touch. Now they want the touch. It works for me because I already have all our Music and Movies in itunes. Were talking a library that is quickly approaching a TB of movies. We have also seen several Disney games released for the touch (including - Pixie Hollow) that my girls can not wait to play. If there was a Hannah Montana game it would be all over but the shouting. (but I haven't seen that one yet)

John Carmack isn't retarded. The game will obviously have different graphics and run on all three iPhones. It will just look and/or perform better on the 3G S.

Man, it's kind of interesting to see modern games get their graphics torn down. Let's see if the game play is any good, though.

Are you kidding, it's happening now.
