Hi everyone,

I have a huge problem with my Iphone 3G and i really need your help, its urgent!!! I woke up this morning and when I took my Iphone, the left side of the screen (about the first column of apps) was completely paralysed. No answer at all, just nothing. That means that when I use the keyboard, I cannot use the letters a-q-s-e-w-z, when i am on the phone keys, i can’t use 1-4-7, when i am on the Ipod or in the setting menu, i can’t press back, etc and etc...All kinds of little things that makes you want to throw your phone away. Before asking your help, i just want to notice you that i was using the 2.2.1 firmware when I decided to jailbroke my phone via quickpwn (the 2.2.1 version and it worked perfectly for a week until this morning). Also, I bought my iphone 5 months ago from a friend’s friend (i think it’s a stolen one, didn’t ask with the amazing price)so i don’t have any warranty or after-service from apple (and I’m afraid they take my phone away at the apple store because maybe it’s written in their computer stolen phone)...Anyways i don’t know if it’s a hardware issue or a touch screen problem so please, can anyone help!!! I sat my hole day in front of my computer searching for an answer and restored my iphone over 12 times. I even downgraded it to firmware 2.1 (nothing happen) and reupdated back to 2.2.1.Its always the same and I am really desperate now! Thanks for your help

I would have said take it to Apple, but thats not possible considering its stolen. I recommend you buy things legitimately next time and you wont have this predicament.

have absolutely same problem. left side around 1 app column, iphone 3g 16 gb.
The phone is around year old. Do not have warranty (phone bought in italy when it was still not available in russia, unlocked).

I have a suspicion that it might be touch screen (not LCD).
Some "experts" claim that it is a fault of motherboard.

Any ideas?

How'd you guys manage to unlock it if your left side doesn't work?

I mean, if your slide to unlock works on the home screen, then it's a software problem, so just restore.

If you can't unlock it, then it's a hardware problem (Most likely), so take it to the Apple store, or buy another one.

I had the same thing happen to the bottom portion of my touch screen. That has to be replaced. Around where I live it will cost around 197.00 dollars to replace it because the the LCD??? has to be replaced also. I was lucky that the store wanted to buy my old iphone for parts so I made some money off of it. The apple genius said the touch screen was worn out at the bottom. That will be the last time I buy a refurb from ATT. The warranty ran out in July 2008 and this happened in March of 2009.

this enabled me to buy my 3g, I miss my old iphone. :( Half the time I can't even get 3g service but yet I pay for it and it wears out the battery sooner. You just can't win.
On another note, I bought a go phone when my old iphone wore out. I would gladly pay any price for another iphone. I was really down in the dumps about not having it. I was actually going through withdrawals. It is amazing how much you get hooked and depend upon a product. Now if they come out with the tablet, I may just have to expand to that. ;)

Ron Paul may have lost but he is still the man! ;)

fireshot91, you can "slide to unlock" , the button is around 2mm out of not working zone.

But of course I have tried several full restores. Without success.

savanahrose,
bottom or upper part of the screen not working was quite a popular problem of iphone 2G. But never heard about anything similar for 3G.
This was the first thread/notice where I found similar issue to mine.

Issue is the most likely hardware. Question is whether I will change the touch screen for 50$ and that's it, or it is something serious than it will be easier to buy new one....

I've had the same thing happen to me before. A couple of notes in the Notes App wouldn't open at all, no matter what I did. The touch screen would not recognize my touch.

Anyhow after a quick restore everything works fine now and has been for the last month.

That should solve your problem.

changed the touch screen to brand new one. No success. Left side is still not working.

Nice to hear that. I thought I was going to get the same problem with this 3g iphone. I do have a problem with the home key though. I have to hit it several times for it to work. I was going to take that down to Apple this weekend.
Sorry to hear SAA that you are still having problems. I wish you luck with it.

This same thing just happened to me on my iPhone 3gs. Heres the thing. I've had it for 3 days, THREE DAYS! What did you all do? Replace it?

Left side iPhone 3GS not responding to touch

Mine started doing the same thing. The only way around at times is the rotate the screen to access certain buttons.

However, when i turned off the screen & back on again immediately, that same area that didn't work before are now responding normally...

Anyone have any suggestions?
