    Hi.
I was surprised at the lack of an iPhone MacRumors app, so I've thought of developing one. Just a few questions to anyone who's interested.
Firstly, most important features? I was debating whether to make a simplistic app to read Page 1 and 2 news features, maybe read comments. Or is there a lot of interest in full forum capability?
Secondly, If I develop it, it would have to be published under my developer account. I was considering an ad supported app, with ad revenue contributing towards MacRumors donations, but can't think of how this'll work.

Don't expect an app next week or anything, but it's on my mind. Just looking for feedback concerning features, ie. minimalistic vs feature rich. And just how many would actually be interested in it.

The website is already iphone friendly (has a mobile edition). Not sure what an app would bring to the table...

There is a thread on this where the site's owner clearly states what his intentions and desires are for the application.

I am not sure what it means in terms of you creating one and it being the unofficial application. I would presume if the owner doesn't care to have an app then you'd likely hit a wall with your app's approval. Again, I could be wrong but you'd be better served to ask an admin or the owner before going through all of the work.

Edit: here is the main thread http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=558210 and there is a post by Arn, the site owner. However, I do recall something more substantial about this.

Hopefully your app has a search function ...

The iPhone friendly version gives me headaches.

    I'd want full forum capabilities.

The iPhone friendly version isn't hard to use but I'd like a better mobile site. The current mobile version is a pain to use because so few topics get put on a page. You have to look through three or four pages just to see what's on the first page of the regular site.

I use the app "Forums($1.99)" to access all the forums I'm following. Works great!

As noted by others, we have plans for one, and while it's taking a bit longer than readers and staff alike would have preferred, it's a matter of priorities. We've recently deployed the new iPhone-formatted version of the site as a partial solution for the time being, but yes, an official MacRumors app is in the works.

And as with just about every other site and/or publication, we do not permit "unofficial" applications to utilize any of our branding or to give the appearance of being an officially-sanctioned application.

Yes...I use Forums primarily for MacRumers. I've setup my favorite threads such as AppleTV, iPhone Hacks, iPhone Apps, and Mac Apps.

This is a good place to mention that we completed our first app, which is for our sister site AppShopper (App Store link).

There's a big difference between this site and facebook - how it functions - what is available and how it would be re-packaged in an app. That's why I said I'm not sure what an app would bring to the table... :)
