Hello,

I promised a couple of you that I would let you know what I think about this product, and a little more info so that you may decide if you would like to purchase it.

A quick summary:
Bought it from here...http://www.ebay.com/itm/131653537236?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2648&var=431043537310&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

There was an "official" product on Kickstarter, but I couldn't find that one. This one is Chinese, but what isn't?

The presentation is actually very impressive. I wouldn't expect anything better from Apple, itself. There is a small indention underneath the lightning cable connection, where the connection for an Android... It hurt typing Andr... Just kidding. But there is a connector that goes in there too. I guess you can order it with both, if you'd like.

Here is the part that stays in the phone. Now you WILL end up pulling it out sooner or later because this cable only charges. So you'll need to use a cable that syncs when you need to. Personally, I only sync with new music, which isn't often at all. So it's good to know I can charge it and not have the cable tugged on by one of my children.

The part that stays in the phone is nice and snug. I'm pretty sure it won't fall out. Hasn't on mine yet. Depending on your case, it may or may not get in the way, but both the "magsafe" and Apple charger about the same width. It works well on mine, and my wife has a case where it sits INside of. She can still close the latch and the cable fits inside.

The light on this is awesome. It is blue when it isn't plugged in, turns orange when it is, and red when the phone is charged.

All in all, this thing SEEMS to be of outstanding quality. I will keep this updated as needed. For now, here are two short videos. One is a demonstration on how it is to plug it in and take it out. The other is a little fun fact I found out about it, and me desk in particular. Yours may not do the same.

Last, I don't know whats up with Apple's warning about some cables not being "authentic", but it's damned annoying when it pops up. For this cable, it only popped up once. It works fine though.

Hope this helps!

does the cable comes off that easily ? since you flicked your finger and it dropped out.

anyway, the official product you are looking for on kickstarter is called znaps. funded quite sometime ago.

No. It looks easier than it is. I didn't just drop it off, I bent it when it went out of frame, using the rigidity of the cable.

I am aware it was funded but it still isn't on the market.

Well I appreciate the heads up, but I guess it will have to be done from a computer. I couldn't figure out how to upload them without tinypic.

Try vid.me, it has faster upload then YouTube
On the accessory itself, I feel like this should've been the Lightning connector we got 3 years ago. As now, there is almost no difference between USB-C and lightning and Apple is in a corner between switching connectors. At least the magnetic feature would've been a differentiator.

Wow. I pledged on KS too.
This looks like a good copy (KS one is delayed)

Yea I noticed a lot of KS products are incredibly late. So far, I'd say it's great. If it could transfer data, it would be even better, but it's nice to have something that will unplug, instead of taking the expensive phone down with whomever tripped over the cable.

Thanks! I've never heard of it. I am also surprised Apple didn't come out with this. Maybe it's because it's "just" a USB cable.

What case do you have on your phone? Looks good

I have a few full protection cases too, but haven't had the need for something as protective lately, as far as hard impact. I always feel the need for scratch protection though and this case is perfect for that. It is very slick and simple. It also has the rubberized grip coating. Oh and it keeps the camera off of the surface of whatever you put it down on.

I bought a screen protector to put under it, that has no home button cut out. So instead of being all clicky and exposed to dirt, the home button feels more robust and is very silent. If you're in the marker for minimum protection, I'd say this one is the one to get. And it's so cheap you can get all colors.

Looks like the big difference between this product and Znaps on Kickstarter is that you have to use their dongle, rather than an adapter on your lightning cord or dock.

Yes, and I like both concepts but at least with this one, for 8 bucks, I get a whole other cable. If the Zsnaps transfers data, I'll try it. Otherwise this one is great so far and has a flatter adapter so I can leave it in the phone.

Thanks for the post. Looks cool. Makes me wonder why they didn't just make the one I bought, transfer data.

Hmmm, doesn't look too bad.

Small update. I found out there is a gen two to these cables, so the seller is sending two of them. They have stronger magnets and data transfer. I'll post as soon as I get em.

Wonder why Apple hasn't made this the OEM charging method.

How safe are these aftermarket mods?

To be honest, it would cost more and I'm sure Apple looks at these cables as sort of throw away cables. So if this was OEM, then they'd have to release regular cables for folks who hated the price. Also, there was a need for magsafe on laptops, but I don't think there was a need for it on much else. So in a nut shel, these wouldn't exist had Apple not invented magsafe for Macs.

These after market cables are completely safe. These days, with the tech we have, it's pretty difficult to create after market products that can damage the product it was made for. All it really is, is connectors that make contact due to being embedded in a magnet that holds them together. It's really no different than being permanently held together by solder. In theory, ram can be held to a mother board by magnets as well. It's just impractical and costly, in some areas of technology.

Huh, this is really interesting. I had no idea such a thing existed, and I've always thought that it would be good for iOS devices to have Magsafe connections. My iPad mini currently has a ton of scratches surrounding its Lightning port from me trying to plug it in in the dark every night.

Just a few questions for anyone who might know/be able to test it...do these work with iPads too, specifically iPad minis? Also, can anyone with one that works with data transferring confirm that these work with the Lightning to USB photo adapters (which as of iOS 9.2, now work with iPhones).

Thanks, and sorry if I missed anything above!

These work with anything that uses a lightning cable. I won't be able to test your next question because I don't have the adapter for the ipad. But I don't see why it wouldn't work. If it transfers data, it should work.

Cool, thanks! And thanks for sharing. I'll probably be looking into these at some point in the near future.
