Hmmm, doesn't look too bad.

Small update. I found out there is a gen two to these cables, so the seller is sending two of them. They have stronger magnets and data transfer. I'll post as soon as I get em.

Is there a link to the updated version? The link in the original post still says charge only.

Has anyone given any thoughts to "what are the chances of shortening out the pins when it's in a pocket or purse, if made contact with something metal"?

Anything will happen if it does?

I am going to try and keep this short.

First, the packaging for the gen 2 is exactly the same, though the dimensions of the USB and lightning connection are slightly different.

The magnets are indeed stronger in gen 2, but the lightning part sticks out more. The gen two connections are rounded and slightly bigger. The light on the gen 2 is green, instead of orange. The data transfer works fine.

Personally, I don't like the gen 2. For one, it doesn't work well with my case, but works fine with my wife's. Also, it is easy to loose connection even if it is slightly off.

We were sent two, and one doesn't work at all. In the photos below, everything on the left is gen one, and right is gen 2. Oh, and last, the LED is on both sides on gen one, but only one side on gen two.

Both will do just fine. I would say the biggest two factors, are what case you're using, and if you care to transfer data with this cable. I can transfer with my Apple cable and use my gen one most of the time, just to charge, so it never gets tugged.

Hope this helps.

I'll be interested in what's wrong with them as I'm waiting on the gen 2 to arrive.

Sorry, I jumped the gun and got all negative about them. Two things that were "wrong" with them, were actually error on my part. My wife likes the gen 2 and it works well with her case. It doesn't work with mine and the gen one is fine, so no biggie for me.

I bought a screen protector to put under it, that has no home button cut out. So instead of being all clicky and exposed to dirt, the home button feels more robust and is very silent.

Sorry, a little of topic.. which screen protector is the one you mentioned? I don't like the clicky feel of the home button.

TIA.

It's a universal screen protecter. The kind you have to cut to fit the screen size. I just get cheap ones cause wether or not they're high end, I always ruin em. Just cut the part for the ear.

Tried this on my iPad Air 2 and my 6S+ and they both did not work, kept saying not supported and stopped charging after a few seconds. Waste of $10

We have three being used with 2 ipad minis, ipad 3g, iphone 4, 5, two 6s +, and one touch 4g. Out fourth cable arrived broken. No light or anything. He refunded us right away for the fourth cable.

About the error message. It will say that when the piece is in without the cable. It only did that to me once. If it doesn't work at all, I suggest you message him. It's not a waste of ten dollars, as I am sure you'll get your refund.

I tried charging my ipad with it and it just kept popping up with the error message.... I got the one that does data and charging so maybe it's different? I sent a message already and I'll see what they say.

well I go a few of these and yes they work. but they have some drawbacks too. the male/female does not have any sort of taper or roundover. so then I adapted one to my dock it was hard to get the phone to connect to it without a lot of fuss. the lightening connector would just drop in.
the second is a much slower change. not sure how much slower maybe close to half or a bit less. the cord has a led that is on always when it is plugged in. so if it is plugged into a battery pack it is going to drain the battery slowly. it is really bright too.

I actually liked that the LED is always on. But I don't use battery packs.

Has anyone bought one recently and had good luck with it? Desperately trying to find one since my iphone/lightning port keeps wearing away with dirt ingestion, marking up the contacts on lightning cables.
