Is there a difference between setting up your GMail account on the iPhone through the 'GMail' option or through the 'Other' option, and then select IMAP?

I originally had it set up through the GMail option, but then read through the iPhone Supersession PDF, and it advises you to set up GMail through the 'Other'->IMAP option.

My original setup seemed to be functioning fine, but I was under the impression that I was missing out on some functionality because it wasn't set up the way the Supersession recommended.

Does it not setup using IMAP if you select 'GMail'?

Much obliged.

if you are running 1.1.3 or 1.1.4 use the GMail setup option, as it now uses IMAP by default.

I can't imagine why you'd set up Gmail through Other when there is a Gmail option! I have mine set up with IMAP through the Gmail option and it works fine.

Thanks. I had a feeling that that was the case, but wanted to make sure.

I appreciate the quick responses.😎

New question:

I was looking through the 'Info' tab in iTunes while my iPhone was synced, and I scrolled down to this in the 'Mail Accounts' section. **See below for snapshot of what I am talking about.

Does this mean that my gmail account is set up as IMAP, and if I want it to be a POP account (not that I do), I need to check that box? Or is my account not syncing properly because that box isn't checked?
