I've never had the biggest iPhone in the lineup. I'm a weightlifter that uses the iPhone. I was wondering if current or past Max/Plus iPhone users can give me insight on whether the biggest iPhone can be left in your pocket while weightlifting or running at the gym. Does it get in the way? Pull your shorts down? etc.

I'm thinking about buying the iPhone Pro Max.

Well I bought an iPhone SE 128GB because it's perfect for the gym. I can swap sims from my X to the SE if I needed to, but at the moment I'm using a cheap $60 annual 100min/100text/500mb per month Red Pocket plan.

I've download Spotify music and the size doesn't get in the way of working out or running.
Maybe look for a cheap SE/6s/7/8 with at least 32GB if you are looking at downloading music or 16GB+ for just streaming.

I have an XS Max. It all depends on what shorts I wear. It slips out of some shorts but in some others it stays neatly tucked. Mostly I just skip the pockets and put it on the floor next to my drink bottle and towel. Most people at my gym do that no matter what the size.

This!

Ive got the XS max never had an issue with it really at the gym. Although I got a “flip belt” that the phone fits perfectly into while your running, squatting or doing what ever you do at the gym. Still easily accessible and doesn’t giggle about annoyingly. I mainly run outside though and it nice just sticking it in the flip belt and forgetting about with worrying about it falling out.

I workout 5-6x a week wearing gym shorts. Having a heavy, rectangular, object bouncing off of my body was distracting. This was one of the reasons I switched back to a regular sized iPhone although if you’re the type to take your phone out of your pocket than it should be fine.

Exact same experience and resolution as you. I keep it on a towel safely near me no matter how good my shorts are at keeping the phone in check; I’d be too nervous about banging it with a weight/bar otherwise.

I put my phone in a Rokform case that has a built in magnet on the back. That way I just stick my phone to the rack or any metal near me. Has worked well for several years.

Not a problem when weight lifting, running however with looser shorts and the xs max was annoying, at that point I usually just stream off the Apple Watch

I have the Max and I find it annoying in my pocket when doing any leg exercises. I put it on the floor with my towel as others have mentioned.

I usually leave my phone in my gym bag along with keys/wallet/etc while working out. Did so with the 6s Plus and X.

That was one of the reasons I got a X and got rid of the 8+. But now that I have a watch and I use the Nike app for a lot of my workouts where I'm following the screen I decided I wanted a bigger phone again. I really wanted to get rid of the phone altogether when working out but I love the Nike app.

This is my experience as well. Keep in mind that there are also some stretchy arm bands that will fit the size of the Xs Max. I will post a link for the one that I use below. It works flawlessly and the touch screen still works. I use it mainly for cardio though.

Avid fitness guy here, I own a XS Max.

When lifting weights, it's fine in your pocket...although I virtually never have it in my pocket. I just set it on the ground next to me while I'm doing my sets.

For running, you won't want it in your pocket but I'd argue that goes for any modern phone. Just too heavy. Most treadmills have a cupholder or something that'll allow you to place your phone inside. If I run outdoors, I just carry it in my hand.
