Today is a sad day..... The headphone jack to my iPhone 6 plus melted closed today and I have no idea how. With a case on it!!!!! Can't get the plug to go back in now. Off to the Apple Store in the morning.

Yeah, c'mon, need pics so we can create a new stupid "GATE" thread.

Headphonejackmeltinthecasewontgobackingate?

Not understanding why people want to be tethered to their phones when you can buy bluetooth headphones from Amazon for under 20 bucks.

Too bad the OP didn't tell us what music he/she was listening to, because we would all have fun with that. :D

While I'm no expert in this field, it takes an extreme amount of heat to "melt" aluminum or even to make it malleable to that degree. 660 degrees Celsius for pure aluminum according to Wikipedia.

The phone would've turned itself off to prevent damage way before you reached that temperature threshold.

On another note, if your phone was near a heat source or even an open flame, it would've been very difficult to damage/deform ONLY the headphone jack area.

That's weird dude.

What did the Apple store say?

I imagine it was the rubber or plastic around the male end of the headphone jack that actually melted. Still scary to think that something can happen in an area where very little energy should be being transferred.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you're saying that the plastic from the male headphone jack melted onto the iPhone's 6's jack? If so, I don't think that's the case.

While the image OP posted isn't very clear, it does seem like the surrounding aluminum around the jack is deformed which is very weird.

Hard to tell from the quality of the image. But it could be residue from the headphones, or what I think, the gold finish was melted by the melting of the headphones.
