iPhone mini wasn't successful due to its poor battery backup. News of iPhone 15 significant battery capacity increase is circulating now. I hope apple could redesign iPhone mini with a much battery capacity now. Please apple, small screen fans are still out there!

Check the battery capacity of iPhone 15 line up below.

I do not think there is a future for the mini

Have you considered a cellular Apple Watch then? It can tick most of your boxes, but camera.
I still need and use all of my phone’s capabilities, I just spend less time on it than most so I want it smaller. I have an AW but there’s very little overlap in capability with a phone. While the overlap in capability between a small phone and big phone is pretty much all of the capability.

The Mini should really become the new SE.
The idea for SE is low price [for an Apple iPhone product]. This implies maximizing the use of existing lowest cost components. Which in turn implies a 6.1” screen size configuration. Apple knows SE sales are driven primarily by its price, so to maximize their profit they will minimize its cost.

While some people (including myself) would like any new mini iPhone and would be satisfied if it was an SE. Apple is exceedingly unlikely to do that. The next SE will be based a previous 6.1” iPhone since that is by far the best business case (most profit).

Should it be-I wish 🙏
Will it be-Unfortunately not 😢

+1. I'm somewhat tempted to get a 13 mini but longevity of that one isn't going to be any better than the SE3 (both A15). The 13 mini just has a better camera system and an OLED screen that gives me migraines.

I just have AppleCare+ on my SE3 as I expect I'll be using this phone for a long, long, long time.

I wanted the 13 Mini after I was forced to retire my SE1, but I chose the SE3 over it only because of Touch ID. Just love my Touch ID too much. Double bummed we may have seen the last Touch ID iPhone AND the last smallish iPhone…

Long live A15 🫡

Once you go full Face ID you’ll be like “why did I like touch ID n the first place?”

Brought a new golden brown leather case for mine. I use it when I am at the gym, running or hiking. I like my new black titanium iPhone 15 Pro with black woven case when I use it for regular type stuff.

Hahah they both have their advantages and disadvantages so it depends on the person. Maybe for most people Face ID offers more advantages. One thing I’ll say though is Touch ID offers more granular control. One can look at their phone without unlocking it, or unlock their phone without looking at it. Those needs/wants might never arise for some though, so again it depends on the person. For me, I do want that control. Also I don’t like my device knowing my face in such detail, and knowing exactly where I’m looking and what facial expression I’m making. I do put sliding covers on all my front cameras. It may be paranoia, but it’s ok, all it costs me is a couple dollars.

Not for everyone. I preferred Touch ID over full Face ID by a significant margin. I get false negatives from Face ID at least 15% of the time. Glasses, messed up hair, dirt, bandages, needing to shave, marks from just getting up, lack of sleep, facial expressions, etc.. I just enter my 10 digit code about half the time because I’m in a rush and have lost confidence that Face ID will get it right the first time. For me, Face ID is just a gimmick that cannot be depended on.

Face ID is handy when I want to launch an app from the lock screen. Raise to wake my phone, phone automatically unlocks thanks to Face ID, tap on the icon on the Lock Screen, and go into said app. Pretty fluid.

With Touch ID, I would still have to manually unlock with my thumb. It may be just one extra step, but it's a pretty jarring one, IMO.

Maybe is because I naturally have sweaty hands but for me Touch ID failed 50% of the time. God I hated that thing.

I prefer Face ID simply because it works for me. Touch ID is always hit or miss for me even on my MacBook Pro.

The thickness (depth) is the killer. At 8.25mm, the 15 Pro is as thick as the LCD-based XR/11.

The mini was 7.4mm - 7.65mm thick, so 8.25mm is a big jump.
I finally had a play with the 15 Pro in the apple store today, and its not bad at all. Feels lightweight and only a bit heavier than my 13 mini. I put it next to a normal 15 and you can see that the 15 Pro is slightly smaller.

After two weeks with a 15 Pro and yesterday spent outside of the house, there is one category where the Mini needs a big jump: Battery life! It’s a relief to not have battery anxiety.:p

With that being said, I ended up not having to pay EE a penalty fee for upgrading early. As a result I haven’t sold my Mini 13 yet which is only 1 year old.

Given how battery life on the 15 has barely improved over the 14, the mini need to return once battery tech has made a big jump. Battery life with an A16 or A17 would Be atrocious.

Next iPhone SE is based on iPhone 14 design & size.

15 Pro is just 1 mm less tall and wide, compared to a regular 15. A regular 15 is also considerably lighter.

Check post #1. I have mentioned about stacked battery technology.
Stacked battery technology will be implemented on iPhone 16 next year. It has significant increase over iPhone 14 & iPhone 15.

Stacked manufacturing adds about 5% more energy density. It won't be anything breathtaking.

Mini will still have a mini battery life.

Given the iPhone 15‘s heat issues, using the 14 as a base for the SE is wise. Xbox and PlayStation choose big enclosures for their recent consoles to avoid moaning and complaints about heat or fan noise. The same is true for PC manufacturers. Today, some cases are almost as big as wine coolers.

My iPad or daughter’s don’t get warm even after several hours of playing Minecraft or Roblox. The same isn’t true for my iPhone.

From iPhone 13 to iPhone 15 battery capacity has increased 120+ mah or more with same technology due to smaller 3nm A-chip size in iPhone 15 over 5nm in iPhone 13. This makes Apple to redesign motherboard & shrink as much as possible to make room for more battery.
Apple has been incrementing battery capacity since 1st iPhone due to its poor battery life compared to android.

Future mini :
Upgraded 3nm (efficiency cores to extent battery life) or smaller future A-chip
Stacked battery tech. (13 mini 2406 + 200mah or more)
Redesigned motherboard (Apple keeps shrinking motherboard size removing some of old components which might not be necessary to make more room for battery capacity).
Maybe Taptic Engine will be replaced by more smaller component or new technology.
Future iOS extending 2hrs extra battery life.
Apple’s own Micro-LED technology with decreased power consumption.

Apple can do but they don’t I guess. We have to see after 2yrs after if mini has a comeback or alternatively flip/something smaller in size, if ppl become uncomfortable using 6.3” & 6.9” iPhone 16, 17 screen sizes.

I know about the dimensions one more, but the 1mm less on the diagonal does make a difference and when you put them on top of each other, you can see the 15 Pro is visibly smaller. In terms of weight, the 15 is lighter on paper but in the hand they do feel similar. They done a good job with the weight distribution on the Pro. Anyway im not even going to think of getting the 15 Pro until its on Amazon and £50-£100 cheaper.

You summed it all up nicely in that one sentence:

“Apple can do but they don’t I guess.”

Obviously, many things could be done to improve a 5.4” iPhone. However, since it did not sell enough to Apple’s liking, I would not be waiting much for it to be brought back.

My personal guess is that Apple’s next smallest iPhone could come either in a shape of a foldable, or a minimum of 5.8” screen size.

Am just guessing, but who knows how trend will change after 2yrs. We will have to wait & see.
In one post somebody said that all the time & money spend on R&D on mini version, Apple may not waste it & could bring it back if necessary.
