I am having some issues when trying to airplay music off of my iPhone 6S on the ATV4. It seems to work ok if I try to skip songs in the main playback page, but if I am in the playlist and select a different song while one is playing I consistently get the following error message and the playback starts skipping songs erratically:

Any ideas?

Doesn't seem to be much interest in this error code but I will update anyways in case some lurkers are following up: This is a software problem and happens on all phones we have checked at my Apple store but is isolated to airplay of local music only. Should be fixed in an update.

There's probably not much interest...because you can use use the Music app on the Apple TV. I'm curious as to why you're even attempting this?

The music app only shows purchased music, it allows me to play about 40 songs out of a collection of over one thousand. Not everyone is paying up for Apple music subscriptions and iTunes match, I sure don't plan on doing it in the future.

Bottom line is airplay is an important function for playing my music in my apartment, luckily there are no issues with airplay from the Mac so there are workarounds to the problem, but you can't argue that music airplay from the iPhone to atv is not an important function. The fact that this is being addressed by the engineers and incorporated into an upcoming update should reiterate how basic of a function this really is.

Have you tried Home Sharing instead of AirPlay? I'd bet that's probably much more reliable. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202190 That might at least give you a workaround for the time being.

I have been using home share on occasion. Like I said, there are workarounds. But I do like the ability to sort through music on the phone if I am in another room without needing to go and look at the tv every time I choose a song. Using the remote app is proving to be a good temporary fix for now; that way I am playing the music via the Mac with homeshare, and can see and skip through the music easily on my phone.

Thank you for bringing up this issue.
I´m having the very same problem, which is very annoying.
I´m using the latest version both on the Apple Tv (4th generation) and iPhone 6 s, and whenever I skip a song I get that error. And they didn´t fix it with the last update.

So, from the time being, this trick works for me: select the previous song you really want to hear. For instance if you want to listen to song #4, tap song #3, the error will appear and it will skip to the following song.

I´ve posted it here:

I do agree, AirPlay it´s essential to reproduce all the music I have in my iPhone.
I still get the feeling that this Apple Tv is pretty much a beta version, they should check their products better before releasing to the market.

I have tried selecting the prior song in the list but if you do this enough times it will just start skipping erratically and uncontrollably. For now I just use the remote app to airplay music off the Mac to atv4, that way I can control and browse from my phone. I will stick to this method until it is fixed. FYI, in case you didn't know, the issue only appears when you play local music, if you were to try and play cloud music, iTunes match etc, you would not have this problem. (I don't subscribe to these services)

Cheers

Same here, when selecting the prior song only works a couple of times, then it just goes crazy and keeps skipping all songs. The only option left is to close iPhone´s music app.

Yes, as you mentioned, this bug seems to appear only for the local music but I´m not using cloud music, iTunes match or so (and I´m not planning to do so).

I´ve tried to connect iTunes (from windows) with the AppleTv 4 and it works fine, without skipping songs.

However, I´ve faced these 2 problems:

1. The covert art from the albums doesn´t correspond with the one playing in AppleTv.

It seems to have some kind of lag cause it displays the cover art from the previous song (not the actual one). Not a big deal, but still it´s there.

2. Wifi problems

We´ve been using a time capsule with iMac 2009 and got wifi to all devices at home (a Toshiba laptop, Playstation 4 and two iPhones) and we could use wifi at the same time in all the devices.

Until we bought the last iMac Retina (21.5 / 4K) now for some reason whenever the new iMac is on all non-Apple devices cannot access wifi. If I´m using wifi in the Toshiba laptop and someone turns on the iMac, automatically wifi in Toshiba is turned off and cannot be used until you shut down iMac (and wait for a while). Mysteriously we get wifi in the iPhones without problems.

So, even though I can connect iTunes from my Toshiba and play music without that bug, whenever someone comes and turns on the iMac, my Toshiba´s wifi dies and I all I have to connect my music to the Apple Tv is the iPhone 6 with that bug.

I really enjoy music and this feature is important for me cause I can listen all my music through my HD speakers at home.

BTW, we called Apple to explain the mysterious configuration by which all non Apple devices are without wifi when the iMac is on. After 30 min of configuration checking and restarting machines, they said it could be a Toshiba´s configuration problem and we should call them instead.

Cheers

With the 9.2.1 version, it improved a lot (though no fully fixed).
You don´t get the error that often but still it contains several bugs: turning off the airplay function when changing songs.

BTW, with Applemusic the service works just fine, no bugs so far.
